If you need a place to stay in Osaka, Hotel Mikado is the place to be. Very budget friendly and the staff are super friendly as well. Let's face it, you don't really need to spend x-amount on a classy hotel when all you're going to need is a place to sleep, and Mikado overs just that. Peaceful sleep and recharge before exploring the city of Osaka all day. Stayed there twice already and we'll be staying there again if we ever go back to Osaka. Did we mention that they also have a spa (Onsen)?

I stayed for six nights and couldn’t have done better: location is awesome; price a super value; spick and span; great, friendly staff willing to help out - I felt like moving in here. Hey these guys on the evening shift - Naoki and Taku (you too Mr Kan 😬) - they really made my stay just like I’m saying - too good. Helped me fixed my glasses when they broke (I’m blind 😵without them), advice on where to get things that I lost (my red dongle 😢), anything I asked! They never made me feel like I was interrupting them or bothering them in anyway. They speak English quite well by the way. Hey, my room was alright too. Even though I was only one, it had bunkbeds that were comfortable and large enough for me. I didn’t try out the Japanese style bathing room, but the showers were always clean when I used them. When I asked for another pillow, I got it. Seriously, I’ve traveled extensively, and I’ve never found a better place for the money than this.

“Brilliant value for money Japanese style budget hotel”

I was on a tight budget for this trip, the Mikado hotel came up top of the budget offers on Hotels.com and because they have a sauna and traditional Japanese hot bath spa area I was very interested. All I need is a comfortable bed and quiet room, I'm not that bothered about an en suite bathroom. I had a traditional Japanese futon bed room 406 for first four nights, then changed to 702 which had a normal bed. Showers are private cubicles here and the toilets and basins area is on every floor. I found it still very private regardless of sharing with other guests. Toiletries are provided as well as the usual slippers, robes and toothbrush kits. There's a communal kitchen downstairs in front of reception where you can use the microwave and larger refrigerator if required. Teas and coffee is available during the day. The hotel is in an ideal location within a short walking distance of Shin-Imamiya station, there are direct trains to and from Kansai airport on Nankai line and Dobutsuen-Mae metro is a short stroll away and is on the Midosuji line. Tennoji Zoo is walking distance and plenty of shops and great places to eat nearby. If you're not fussed and just needing basic lodgings and easy access to public transport in Osaka, I definitely recommend this hotel. The only minor issues were that there was dust in my room along clothes hanging area so I cleaned it away, there was rather a musty smell in the second room I stayed in last two nights, so I kept the window open all day and rid of it, I expect it was from previous guest, but air conditioning and open window helped. The basins by the lockers in the hot bath changing rooms were taped off and this was disappointing, it needs fixing obviously. There is a fridge in every room which is great to keep your own food and drinks cool. There are eight floors, I think two floors is smoking allowed, so be sure to state which room type preference when booking. There are double rooms for couples or bunk bed rooms available as well.

“Pleasant stay”

In situ sento, which makes it a nice after a long flight. There is an AM and PM schedule for ladies and gents. Most staff were friendly. Very clean facilities. Nice variety of teas and cooking facilities. The room is a bit too small.
