“Just okay”
The private room was okay, though the walls were quite thin so noise from the street or hallways was quite loud. The common area on the first floor definitely needs to better ventilated because you will end up smelling like oil if you sit there for any extended period of time. The staff were nice… more

“Not great”
Roots was our least favourite hostel we stayed in over our 3 weeks in Japan, smelt like oil/smoke in all the common areas. Everything just felt quite old and run down. The bed was wide and comfy at least.
