Staying here for me was all about the view from the bedroom, and it was really worth it. I didn't tire of looking out my window the whole stay. The meals have a lot of seafood and my husband doesn't eat seafood, so we requested a vegetarian meal in advance and it was absolutely delicious. We booked one of the private onsens but it was not warm at all, and quite run down. Service was generally good.

The ryokan-hotel's sign says, "Ryokan Umibe no Kakure yu Seiryu". I'm not sure why TripAdvisor shortened it so much. By now, I've stayed at many ryokans and ryokan-hotels. If this was my first time, I would give this hotel four stars. However, this hotel is a typical establishment that had its heyday during Japan's bubble. They do the necessary maintenance, but don't seem to have the resources to do capital improvements. The decor hasn't been updated for decades. The food was good, but it didn't wow me like the first time I had a kaiseki meal. Breakfast was good too. There was a LOT of food. The indoor bathing area was adequate, but I didn't use the outdoor facilities (only visited them). The outdoor tubs are located at the bottom of steep stairs. I didn't see comfortable walking down the wet steps in slippers. It was slippery even with my normal shoes. In any case, it's always nice to end the day with a full-body soak. The Yuru Camp (manga) girls used the onsen bath here after visiting the Tombolo. There are Level 2 EV chargers in the parking lot.

We hold high expectations of this hotel given the impression from the photos. Actually the hotel is rather dated. The room rate was quite reasonable. The best thing we thought must be the public onsen and the complimentary private onsen, but actually very disappointed. First, there are two private onsens, one bigger and one smaller. The front desk assigned the time slot for us when checking in. We checked in around 5 pm when only one time slot for the small onsen was left. We are required to first wash ourselves at the public onsen, re-dress ourselves, go to the front desk not earlier than 5 minutes before the designated time for the key, proceed outdoor and decend downhill for about one minute before reaching the private onsens. The bad thing was the rain and wind. Worse of that was that the onsen had a round tub merely sufficient for two people to squeeze in. The worst thing of all is that the wooden structure facing the ocean which was half step away from the tub, was completely open like a door opening without the door. When sitting inside the tub, we feel like hanging over the cliff and had no sense of safety. We left in less than 5 minutes. Food is only average. The live abalone for grill and wine steaming was better seen than eaten. I stayed in another two hotels next to this one. Both provided very substantial afternoon drinks and snacks while there was nothing here.
