Good: You can feel staffs are very welcome to serve you. But I would like to apologize for my late arrival and cause those staffs have to wait me. Dinner in room is excellent. Full of sashimi, raw lobster and their famous soy sauce cooked fish. Many of staff could communicate with English. Room is spacious. Excellent garden. In room onsen is good. Cons: Not much attraction nearby, but the hotel could give you a relax as you don’t have to hurry to many places. Room’s wear and tear is a bit problem and really have to address it as the price per night is quite high. However, it is very clean at all.

This inn used to be the summer home of a very wealthy merchant, founder of the modern Mitsubishi group. It is huge, with a number of old wooden buildings which are joined in a tasteful way by modern corridors and newer buildings. Our room was enormous with a view over what must be the most beautiful view of any inn in Japan. The bath which draws water from a natural hot spring is very nice, without being luxurious. Breakfast and dinner is taken in a separate dining area and the food on the whole is very good. The staff were very responsive and were committed to making our stay comfortable.

We travelled as part of a group on a gastronomic tour in Japan and occupied several rooms with single sex occupation. Initial greeting was very friendly and your shoes are taken away on entry - you get a "luggage tag" for them which you need to keep safe! Our rooms were for three people each with plenty of space, many tatami mats with room for futons laid down at dinner by the staff. There are separate loos, washing area and a small private onsen which I found extremely hot. The main onsen is traditionally single sex but there is only one pool in each area so not possible to experience a range of temperatures. Food is a traditional Kaiseki meal, not the best but not the worst we have had and the staff work hard to please. Breakfast is also traditional Japanese so no catering for Western tastes. Most guests are from Japan so generally arrive by car, we had a small fleet of texis from Izu Nagaoka station. The onsen experience is a personal taste (not really to mine) but the property itself is large, beautifully laid out and very secluded.

Overall it is was a great place to stay and after two nights we left feeling like a million bucks. We had our 3-year-old daughter and she was treated great at all times. The place is very big and really nice. Our room was huge, super quiet, clean and very relaxing. We had a private bath and a private garden. Great that our room and the hotel did not smell like cigarette smoke as so many Japanese hotels do. Thumbs up for non-smoking. The property is very big with sprawling facilities in traditional Japanese style. This is a wonderful place to walk around and enjoy, especially the main traditional Japanese garden. The main garden is really big and beautiful with a nice history. Service was really friendly for the most part and the dinner/breakfast was really nice. One thing that they did not do was explain the different courses. I would not rate the food highly but certainly it was good. The dining facilities should be renovated so guests can enjoy views of the grounds and gardens while they eat. The "public" bath was disappointing. It was clean and nice however for such a huge place this bath was way too simple and small. There is an indoor and outdoor bath but no saunas or steam rooms, no cold pools, no jet-baths, no benches, etc... Considering the potential for this place I was surprised how small, simple and uninteresting this onsen was but since my room had a nice tub I just didn't bother going back. Convenient mini-bus service to and from the station. I can recommend this as a fine place to stay. I feel the potential of this amazing property is not being used. Management would do very well to improve the public baths and dining facilities.
