I have been staying in this hotel for years. It is a great value. The staff are friendly and welcoming and they really know what service means: When I arrive too early to check in they take my luggage and give me a chit. When I return and check in and give them the chit, they tell me my luggage is waiting for me in my room. It takes about ten minutes to walk to the JR Ochanomizu station and fifteen to walk to the JR Akihabara station. There are two convenience stores next door and more down the street. The Japan Origami Center is five-minute walk away. Although in downtown Tokyo the place is very quiet. Often I wake to the sound of cawing crows. There are smoking rooms available, but I have never smelt one.

This review is an update from my last posted review in 2010. I also stayed here in 2011 and 2014, it did not post a review because I didn’t see any changes. It’s four years since my last visit and the service, rooms, breakfast, and everything else is still the same as I remember. Since their last remodeling (“renew”), everything looks and feels new. No noticeable wear and tear. Anyways, the only change is there is now a coin-operated laundry machine is now available in the lobby. Very convenient, because, on previous trips, the staff didn’t know if there is a coin laundry nearby and I couldn’t find one when I explored the neighborhood.

Its never easy looking for well-located hotels in Tokyo on a shoestring budget, but O-inn is just that. Situated on the northend of the 圣桥, across the Ochanomizu river, it's just slightly over 5 minutes walk from the Ochanomizu JR station( which has the Chuo-line, Chuo-sobu line and the Yamanote line) and Ochanomizu metro station (which has the Marounouchi line). These are all the major lines you would need to use when travelling around central Tokyo. Furthermore, Ochanomizu metro station is just 3 stops from Tokyo Station, from which you can access the Shinkansen. Perfectly convenient. As with most Japanese hotels, space is premium. Therefore do not expect much space to walk around in the room or for your luggage. But the Japanese has always used their ingenuity and design aesthetics to work around space constraints. Hence in spite of the tight space, you can find everything from a fully functional bathroom and toilet (complete with toiletries and shower gel etc), to kettle and tea makers to humidifier. How neat is that? To make guests feel even more at home, O-inn has a instant beverage dispenser at its lobby where you can get hot/cold coffee and green tea. Personally, I loved the ice-cold green tea after a whole day of traversing Tokyo. Very refreshing! More toiletries like combs, cotton buds, and even hairbands are laid out in a tray at the lobby for guests to help themselves. The staff speak enough English to communicate, and are helpful with storing our luggage when we left for our overnighter. They are also extremely quick with the check-in and check-out as all documentation are prepared in advance. I personally appreciate such efficiencies. The degree of flexibility is really quite high for a Japanese establishment. And to top it all off, Family Mart (a convenience chain) is just next door. Pop in to get that onigiri for a snack anytime you get hungry!

If you are after budget friendly accommodation near a train station then this is for you. I booked us the Twin Room, Non Smoking (Hollywood, 2 Connected Single Beds). The beds are connected because the room is so small we struggled to move so only 1 person could move at a time. We also only had between the 2 of us a carryon suitcase each, you would struggle with a large suitcase in this room. You also have to leave your room key with reception when you go out for the day which I thought was odd. Staff are lovely here and there is a restaurant on site.
