“Peninsula - Top Brand That Doesn’t Rest On Its Laurels”

Peninsula Tokyo was exemplary in every way as always. Well looked after on our return trip to leave Tokyo with good memories.

I live the Peninsula Tokyo. And it’s all about the room and the service. Location is amazing right by the Imperial Gardens. But the room is HUGE. A walk in closet with a table and chair etc for make up. A big big bathroom and the bedroom itself has a sitting area. And that’s a standard room. But the best part of this hotel is the laundry - anytime of day, you can put clothes in the laundry bag, pop it in the valet box and press a button. 4 hours later, it’s back. No paper to fill out. And that’s the standard service. Enough said. But to say a little more, the staff are UNBELIEVABLE. Everyone. We had a hotel car for a day or meetings - the green Toyota Century , what a car - and the driver was amazing. Anyway, I love it here.

“Would've been great 15 years ago”

With the brand Peninsula come big expectations, unfortunately this hotel disappointed us in more than one way. While the staff at the hotel were phenomenal, they were unable to make up for other shortcomings. The rooms are past due for renovations, with signs of wear in multiple places. I can't remember the last time I saw a fax machine or a dvd player in my room. While usually the Peninsula hotels have tablets to control your room, this one uses old style phone looking device. The temperature setting is just 5 dots, from hot to cold. We found the room either too hot or too cold. The rooms are clean with a few stains here and there. The bathroom while clean reminded us more of a Mariott, than of a hotel of the Peninsula price point. In general the entire hotel has a rather sad and dim vibe. There is no space in the window-less lobby to sit down other than the restaurant. All of those shortcoming takeaway from the hotel's luxurious feel. When paying 150,000yen per night, we expect the best, especially with how competitive the Tokyo Hotel scene is. The breakfast is served in the lobby restaurant and you get 3 options: Western, Japanese, and Chinese. While the Benedicts were good, the rest of the western choices left room for improvement. It feels as if the hotel lacks "life" in every area, which shows in the breakfast service. It was simply okay, but not appealing in any special way. The location is great. The proximity to train tracks is not noticeable as the hotel remains very quiet. We booked a stay for 6 days, but after 3 requested to be refunded for the remainder of the stay and after some back and forth ended up leaving after night 4. We were offered a change from our deluxe room into the garden facing room, as a form of apology and an attempt to have us stay there for the remainder of our trip. We however declined, as we value our general experience more than just a better view. The management was apologetic and cooperative which we appreciated. One thing that this hotel doesn't miss on is as mentioned before the staff, from the waiters to the managers, they're all great.

“pretty boring”

The hotel somehow lacks ambience and does not feel Peninsular. Even though we were in a premier suite or something, the view of the royal garden is interrupted by some building in the front. The breakfast is not up to standard. This is not quite acceptable.
