My 2nd hotel booking with Tokyu Stay and this time is in Shimbashi. Picked this hotel due to its proximity to Haneda Airport - simply take Tokyo Monorail (get off at Hamamatsucho Station) then switch to either JR Line or Asakusa Line and only one stop off at Shimbashi Station - the whole journey takes less than half a hour. You walk about 3-5 minutes and hotel is right there. There are MANY restaurants, shops and stores in this area but not as commercial as the nearby Ginza area. For a business traveler like me, this is really ideal. I was lucky to book the big room this time, which is very spacious by Tokyo standard - room comes with a queen size bed, washer/dryer combo, microwave, a small kitchenette and a nice dining chair/table set, and there is stil plenty of space to walk around. Hotel provides limited room clearning service every other day but can come into your room to clean by request. The in-room washer/dryer combo is absolutely wonderful to have so you won't have to pay for expensive laundry service. Breakfast can be added as an option during booking and it is served daily at the downstair restaurant. Food at this Tokyu Stay is way better than my previous hotel in Shinjuku so I took advantage of it every morning before heading out to my meetings. For travelers prefer no breakfast, there are so many food choices around the hotel and also near Shimbashi Station. But no hotel is perfecthe only issue I had with the hotel is, they do not provide free umbrella for guests, I was told by front desk that it cost 360 yen to buy which I had no choice as it was pouring rain outside. I ended up using it once and left it to the hotel. In sum, I absolutely enjoyed my stay and the facilities at this hotel. There are many Japanese business hotel chais and I must say Tokyu Stay is by far my favorite Japanese hotel chain - it is reasonably priced, most of them are in super convenient locations, offers the best bang for the buck. I will continue to explore other properties under Tokyu Stay brand but Tokyu Stay Shimbashi is definitely getting on my preferred list for future Tokyo travel. I will be back.....

“Worth the three-star status”

This is an above average hotel. The single rooms are a bit larger than the typical Japanese hotel, as is the bathroom, making it an okay stay for westerners. There is no full room cleaning service. Other than that, things are pretty positive. The room has its own washer/dryer, and is quiet. It's in a very nice area, and central to a whole bunch of things to do in Tokyo. There's a train station within walking distance. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a mix of Japanese and western style. A decent stay.

“Decent business hotel.”

The hotel is a 5 minute walk maximum from Shimbashi station, so easy access to Haneda airport and other areas in Tokyo. It’s around a 10 - 15 minute walk to Ginza from the hotel. The hotel is a 5 minute walk maximum from Shimbashi station, so easy access to Haneda airport and other areas in Tokyo. It’s around a 10 - 15 minute walk to Ginza from the hotel. The bed and shower were wonderful, found the pillows a bit hard though. Was really helpful having a washer/dryer located in the room. The room itself is just the right size for 2 adults with their luggage, but any more than 2 suitcases would be a tight squeeze. While clean in the room and shower area, you could see signs of wear and tear throughout. There was some wallpaper pealing by the toilet in the room and a lot of dust around the washer/dryer. On the last night after strong winds, a squealing started from outside the room and would not stop. We managed to sleep eventually, but it wasn’t a nice way to end our time at the hotel. For a night or two, we would recommend the hotel but for any longer it would not be a comfortable stay if there is more than 1 person staying in the room.

“Conveniently located hotel catering for the gaijin tourist market”

Shimbashi is a convenient location to stay when visiting Tokyo, particularly if your flight arrives at Haneda airport. The streets immediately surrounding the station are quite seedy at night but the hotel, whilst just a 5 minute walk, is the other side of a main road in a less boisterous district. About 10 minutes away is the rather lovely Hama-rikyu gardens, the best green open space I've been to in the capital. The front desk is well staffed and provides attentive and friendly service. They have a lot of luggage storage and deliveries to deal with. The rooms are standard for this type of chain. The bed was pretty comfortable with two pillows each and a cushion. There's a ubiquitous drop-in plastic bathroom with a funny-shaped heavy shower head that powerfully sprays a bit indiscriminately. Each floor has two slightly larger rooms that don't cost that much more and can accommodate a couple of large suitcases more easily. There were two negatives that reduce my rating to 3*. The first was the heavily Westernised breakfast of poor quality served in an annex used as an Italian restaurant for the rest of the day. The floor was sticky and the tables rather cramped. We would have been better off just getting stuff from the 7/11 behind the hotel and eating in the room. The second is that the rooms are only cleaned once a week for those staying at least this long. You can request a towel change and emptying of waste baskets on other days, but that's it.
