“Good location - midway between the station and the lake”

Stayed here for 1 night in November 2023. Pros: 1) The place is very quiet at night and bed is very comfortable. The sleep quality is great. 2) The front desk is staffed 24 hrs. 3) The location is good. It is a 20 min walk to the train station and a 20 min walk to the other side of the lake. 4) You get an unobstructed view of Mt Fuji from the rooftop. 5) The property is very clean - lobby, rooms, bathrooms etc. 6) WIFI is free and the speed and connectivity good. 7) The front desk speaks good English. 8) The property has parking. 9) The room size was adequate. 10) The breakfast is good and is served early (6:30 am) Cons: 1) We could not find many restaurants in this area. 2) The tariff is a bit high.

“Good hotel for Fuji activities”

We stayed at the Haostay Kawaguchiko for three nights in August 2025, and found it to be a good spot to base out of for our Mt. Fuji hiking trip. It's a little ways from the main areas around the train station and the lake, but this made it very nice and quiet in the evenings. It's not a luxury hotel, but it is comfortable and clean and has an excellent breakfast included every morning. We tried both the Japanese style and the western style (sandwich) breakfast and enjoyed both, although the Japanese one was our favourite and was quite filling. The dining area has a nice view of Mt Fuji, which was a bonus. We were in a twin family room, with two beds and two "sections" to the room. One with the beds, and another tatami mat area. This space was so nice to have for our luggage and to spread out a bit. The biggest problem was that the air conditioning seemed to turn off every few hours overnight. We were there during an extreme heatwave so having the AC on was important. We'd have to wake up and reset it at least once or twice a night. We made use of the laundry room to wash our clothes after hiking, there were three washers and dryers available. Another helpful feature was the shuttle van that took us back to the train station when we checked out, saving us the 15 minute walk. I tried to figure out how to use this shuttle to pick us up on our arrival, but could not find a way to contact the hotel about it.

The hotel is a bit far from the Kawaguchiko Station and probably not walkable especially with luggage. One can either take a taxi or the Red Line bus. If you take the bus, you still need to walk maybe 10 minutes to the hotel. The hotel has a free shuttle bus, but you need to pre-arrange for pickup. Our room has 3 beds, and a tatami sitting area. Since I asked for the mountain view, there is a window that we could see Mt. Fuji if it is visible. The room does not have a phone, or television. It does provide free wi-fi. Generally speaking, it is pretty dated. There was no housekeeping service inside the room during our stay. As a matter of fact, they made it clear that no one will enter our room. We need to put our garbage outside our room each morning for them to remove it, and also leave our used towels outside our room to be replaced. Our room also included breakfast in the morning with choices of either Japanese or Western styles (sandwiches). It was not buffet style. I don't think it was very satisfactory. The hotel does provide coin-operated washers and dryers. It also has a deck on the top of the hotel where you can see Mt. Fuji if it is visible. It happened to us on our second day, and that was nice.
