Rakuyu is a stunning hotel with the most gorgeous views of Kawaguchiko and ideally located near shops and the Tenjoyama Ropeway. The twin room I stayed in with a friend was unbelievably spacious with an expansive view of the lake greeting me outside my window each morning. Although this hotel does not have a formal dinner service, the afternoon tea and cocktail snacks provided are substantial enough to be considered a light meal. Really excellent value for money, the only quibble I had was that you need a car with decent horsepower to climb the slope leading to the entrance as it is very steep. The road leading downhill away from the hotel on the other hand is quite narrow so renting or bringing a large car would also be difficult. I really wouldn’t advise trying to climb the slope on foot, especially with luggage in tow - best to use luggage forwarding services to send them to and from Rakuyu if you choose to stay here.

“The view, lounge access”

Enjoyed unobstructed views of lake Kawaguchiko from our bed! English speaking staff. Walkable to lake front - tarmac though. It might not be as “fancy” as some others or have dual view of Mount Fuji and lake, but the lounge access and convenience of shuttles and to souvenir stores worked for us. Get around the steep walk up the hotel by taking the shuttle - as long as you coincide with their schedule. Hotel Onsen was mostly empty for the 4 days we were there - woo Hoo! The lounge access gives you drinks - alcoholic and non alcoholic and the snacks served at 530-730pm are alright but if you need a more substantial meal, be prepared to take a taxi out or walk at least 10-15 mins as most places near the hotel closed by 6pm in June when we were there. Breakfast is a decent range of Japanese (rice, pickles, soup, grilled fish), eggs, salad, fruit, pastries.

“Excellent”

Excellent stay. Good views of lake from reception area, our room and onsen. Price of room included fantastic food for dinner and breakfast. Drinks included with dinner. Beautiful walk along lake with Mt Fuji views. Short walk left out front door up hill for good Mt Fuji views.

My wife and I are fortunate that we travel extensively and generally stay in 5 star accommodation , consequently we were not expecting anything wonderful . The hotel frontage is fairly shabby but the reception is very pleasant ,.Checkin and out was very efficient and friendly as was baggage handling all the staff spoke excellent English which is unusual in Japan . The room was quite basic but had a magnificent view of the lake .sleep quality was good but bed is a Japanese style bad I.e. very low to the floor. Bathroom was antiquated but functional with good water pressure. There is a complementary meals option which is average from all points a f view . There is complimentary parking . In short the hotel is more than good enough for one or two nights.
