We spent four nights at the property. It was a great base for various outdoor activities around Fuji as it is very conveniently located. The rooms (although dated and a bit worn-out) are huge, so it felt more like having an apartment than a hotel room. Huge rooms are super useful for adventure travellers. The property also has a cosy onsen which makes sleeping a delight. 1. Bit old/worn-out, but everything still works well. 2. It was more difficult than usual to communicate with the team. Only one of the receptionists was comfortable with having a conversation via a translation app. 3. We rented bicycles from the hotel. They are so poorly maintained that we decided to give them back at the end of day-1. Flat tires, squeaky parts, misaligned handle bars, worn-out brakes etc.

Old charm hotel. Stayed in a room for 4, comes with 2 single beds and another platform for tatami beds which we have to take the beddings out of the closet and fix them up ourselves. It has a separate toilet and bath with a golden plastic tub. It does not shout luxurious but offers basic stay. The views of Mount Fuji from the room is a plus. Hotel offers public onsen, bath soak for tiring legs, bicycles for rental. Staff are pleasant and polite. Located at one corner of Lake Kawaguchiko, it’s quiet but walkable to Lawson convenience store and a few eateries (grill, ramen, hoto noodles, etc) in the same area (about 5mins). Bus stop #5 of red bus stops in front of the hotel. Lake and a park just in front of the hotel; tranquil and offers unblock & beautiful views of Mt Fuji & autumn 🍂 foliage. Quaint Herb garden is just next door, with souvenirs and infamous lavender ice cream that matches those sold in Oishi Park without the crowd. If hotel is not as dated, has an in-house restaurant, we would return.

Firstly, I really liked the location. Kawaguchiko is beautiful and this side of the lake is less built up than the other side (and there is a nice park in front). It's walking distance from the station but about 20 minutes but not recommended with luggage. But not to worry, there is a regular (and cheap) 'loop bus' that departs regularly from the Station and stops right in front of the hotel. Also, the hotel offers a free shuttle bus to the Station from 8am - 10am. The check-in for this hotel is 3pm. Bearing in mind most check-outs in Tokyo are mid-morning, it meant we arrived in Kawaguchiko at midday and had three hours before we could check in to our room. Not very convenient. The hotel do offer a free pick-up from the Station but only after 3pm. Our room was good. It comprised of two single beds and a separate tatami room. We had a great view of Mt Fuji. I'd wake each morning and open the curtains and have a perfect view of if from my bed. If we were on the other side of the building, we'd have had a view of the lake instead. The bathroom was a little basic and the shower took a while to warm up, but aside from that it was an enjoyable room to stay in. The hotel had a free onsen and free robes/slippers for guests to use. I'd never used an onsen before and really enjoyed it - think of a really, hot steamy bath! The hotel also has bike hire available (1500 yen for the day). Visiting Mt Fuji was one of the highlights of my trip. Kawaguchiko was a really good base with plenty to do. I'd highly recommend visiting Chureito Pagoda and cycling around the lake was a really nice way to spend the day. I also thought the staff were extremely friendly.
