I stayed three nights at this hotel. The reception staff was friendly. The room, including good bed, was comfortable and clean. Compared to some places, everything worked too! The breakfast was good – definitely above average. The location was pretty good. It was about a 10-15 minute walk to the excellent Almaty metro. Good restaurants are even closer. A taxi ride is possible, but traffic is horrible.

Should be a 4 star stay BUT it had too many annoyances = 3 stars. While room #347 for 2 nights from 03 May on an Adventures Abroad tour was clean and probably bigger than a std room, the bathroom is tiny and then very poorly designed. The hand shower outlet is at hip height. I greatly dislike the alternative “rain” shower head as I would think most world travelers who do not want to wet their hair at every shower, would agree. We could not get the bath tub plug to seal. On a long tour, such a workable amenity is important for hand washing larger clothing items. No anti-slip bath mat is supplied. Not enough towel rails or hooks. The two twin beds pushed together to make a double bed is not supplied with an appropriate sized bottom sheet OR an appropriate sized top quilt. The 2 pillows in total look pretty but are pretty useless, being so soft. The mattress was too soft for us. Breakfast in a hotel very busy with western travelers, was just ok but the juice is so watered down, there were only old apples as fresh fruit when the local markets are packed with strawberries and early season apricots and again the pre-cooked hot food is not being kept food hygiene std warm. The coffee machine consistently gave luke warm drinks. The dining space has no air turn over and the air was stale and claustrophobic. I stepped outside but was then confronted with smoke from the nicotine addicts. Buses cannot park anywhere near the hotel and the clever hotel designers have a dozen steps up to the hotel foyer. The pluses. Our group check-in was efficiently managed. The air con could be adjusted. The window could be opened. The safe was secured. There was a small fridge but it was filled with very expensive hotel drinks. The towels were thick and soft. There is a long bench supplied in the room suitable for a small suitcase. In room wifi was easy to access and with an ok speed; but it then greatly slowed then of an early evening.

This hotel is right in the center of the city in a converted apartment building from the Soviet era. Our room was ok – a decent size, fairly clean (detritus on floor), with 2 comfortable chairs. The bathroom dates to the 80s and was small with limited space for toiletries. The room was quite dated and the lighting isn’t great. There were holes in the wall where we assume pictures used to be. The bed linens were ok as were the bath towels. Dinner in their restaurant was pretty good, though the beer and wine prices were comparatively high. Breakfast was mediocre – the coffee machine wasn’t working, there was no yogurt, limited choices. A supermarket, pharmacy and ATM were nearby. Front desk staff weren’t particularly friendly or helpful, but the restaurant staff were all lovely. Lack of hot water was problematic and then we had to deal with billing errors at check out. Not great but not terrible overall.

Easy check-in after a day of flights and touring. Tiny room…shower. Okay bed. Okay linens. Okay Wi-Fi. Okay breakfast. Chosen by my private tour company. Just okay place.
