My wife and I stayed at Samburu Intrepids for five nights in August 2026 for our honeymoon, staying in a tent for two. From the moment we were picked up in Nairobi by our private transfer driver, Simon, the experience was exceptional. Simon also became our safari driver for the duration of our stay and was fantastic throughout; incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the wildlife. We saw a variety of animals over the five days and managed to tick off everything on our bucket list. The Samburu Reserve is very quiet in comparison to the more touristy Maasai Mara. There are fewer vehicles and less crowding around wildlife sightings. I would recommend Samburu to anyone looking for a safari that feels a little more off the beaten track. Five nights gave us plenty of time to explore, with two game drives each day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Two or three nights could be enough if you are lucky or have specific animals you want to see. The staff at Samburu Intrepids were incredibly welcoming from the moment we arrived. Our luggage was taken to our tent and check-in was effortless. There was also a lovely honeymoon surprise waiting for us in the tent, which was a wonderful touch. The tents themselves were spacious and spotless. A special mention must go to Nuno, who looked after our tent throughout our stay. He was exceptional and always ensured everything was perfect. The facilities within the tent, including the shower, were also top tier. The security team, led by Hussain, also deserve recognition. They made us feel completely safe and were always happy to escort us to and from our tent and the restaurant at night. One evening, they even took us out to watch the stars. These small personal touches really made the stay memorable. The food was another highlight. The chef and catering team produced excellent meals, with plenty of choice. Breakfast was buffet style, while lunch and dinner offered a three-course à la carte menu. Four evenings were spent dining beside the river, which was a fantastic experience. On our final night, the team arranged a private dinner under the stars, which was an incredible way to finish our honeymoon. A special thank you also goes to Charles. From our first meal onwards, he looked after us exceptionally well and went above and beyond throughout our stay. His service was genuinely outstanding. The hotel allocates a personal waiter to your table for the duration of your stay; if Charles is assigned to your table, you are in for a treat. Overall, Samburu Intrepids made our honeymoon truly unforgettable. The combination of exceptional staff, incredible food, accommodation and an outstanding safari experience made it the best holidays I have ever had. Highly recommend. The only thing I would change would be the journey from Nairobi to the camp. The drive took around 6ish hours, whereas the flight is approximately 50 minutes. If I were visiting again, I would choose to fly to Samburu instead as the car journey can be a bit long.
