We stayed at the Zebra Valley Mara camp as arranged by our tour operators Safari HQ at the start of our private 10 day Kenya / Tanzania Safari. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the amazing and friendly Zebra Valley Mara Camp staff with a traditional welcoming. The tented rooms were very well appointed, extremely spacious with a front deck offering views looking out directly onto the Masai Mara Game reserve. Located only a 10 minute drive to the main access gate to the reserve made it very convenient and extremely easy to access the game park on our morning and afternoon game drives. The food and bar facilities along with the pool, fireplace and other facilities made our stay very confortable, relacing and enjoyable. The staff were very friendly attentive and welcoming at all stages of our 3 night stay which made it such a great overall experience. In the early mornings and late afternoons, wildlife in the reserve could be seen from the front terrace of the lodge which was a bonus. The lodge provided a very safe and welcoming overall experience. With only 19 rooms, if you are looking for a great private lodge to stay in comfort, not feel overwhelmed or overcrowded, located immediately adjacent to the Mara Reserve, I would highly recommend the Zebra Valley Mara Lodge.

14 June 2026 Our stay at Royal Zebra River Lodge was truly exceptional and exceeded all expectations. A special thank you to the entire team for their outstanding hospitality and genuine care throughout our stay. When my wife fell ill, the staff treated her with such kindness, compassion, and attentiveness that it felt as though we were part of their own family. Their warmth and concern made a difficult situation much easier for us, and we will always be grateful for that. The service was consistently delivered with a smile, and every member of the team went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Special recognition goes to Titiya (Manager), Fredrick, Joshua, and Moses (Waiters), Sam (Chef), and Isaac (Housekeeper) for their professionalism, dedication, and personal attention. The rooms were excellent—comfortable, well-maintained, and thoughtfully prepared. What impressed us most was the personalized attention given to our dietary requirements. As Jain Indian vegetarians, we often face challenges while travelling, but Chef Sam and the team ensured that every meal was carefully prepared to meet our needs. On the days we left for early morning safaris and full-day excursions, the team had thoughtfully arranged everything in advance, ensuring we had suitable meals and refreshments throughout the day. Their attention to detail was remarkable and allowed us to enjoy our safari experience without any concerns. A big shout-out to the management and the entire Zebra Plains Collection team for building such an incredible culture of hospitality. The combination of excellent accommodation, exceptional service, genuine care, and outstanding staff makes Royal Zebra River Lodge a truly special destination. This camp is situated right in the Masai Mara and ideally placed for a short journey to see the wildlife. The tents were a great size, the bathroom area very large and there was even a decked area to sit on (though nothing to see as ours was surrounded by bush). One thing to remember is that once it is dark it is VERY dark in the tents as lighting is very subdued (as you'd expect in the middle of the game reserve) so make sure youhave a torch. At night you can hear the animals in the distance and in the morning it sounds like every bird in Africa is giving you a personal dawn chorus. The staff here are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Special shout out to Simon in the dining area. It was my birthday whilst we were in Kenya (though not whilst we were at camp) and they arranged for the Masai tribe who were the entertainment that night to dance round our table and brought me a cake! There is plenty of choice of food at all meals and it was all very tasty - we even had a pack up for lunch one day and that was very tasty and varied. The bar had international branded spirits, and the usual Tusker lager, and was very reasonably priced considering you are a captive audience. We didn't have time to use the pool but it looked inviting and very clean. Just a handy tip - make sure you have an umbrella in your room as if it rains you will definitely need it.

Loved this "camping" experience in the Mara. We could not think of anything to improve our experience here. Each tent was large, with sofa, desk/chair, large bed, mosquito netting , and a wonderful bathroom with a nice shower. Each tent, although fairly close together, was landscaped to make you feel like you were the only tent. The front porch looked out on a small hill. (We had a hillside tent.) There was security to assist you if you left the tent in the dark (and it WAS dark there.) Food was great, and the service was superb! the manager, Gilbert, was always present to assist in any way. Very personable! You could tell he was a good manager by how happy his staff were, and how well runs the property was. There was a swimming pool, but we did not try it. There was a thunder storm the second night, which was almost magical, in the tent. We highly recommend this property, and would return in a heart beat!
