This is another magical hotel. Try the suites, which are really good value, and which have fantastic views across the Mekong. The room was large and airy and comfortable. The star is the restaurant from which you can see the sun set over the river valley. There's a smallish but very clean pool now as well. Try to spend two nights here so you don't have to rush. There's the elephant reserve across the river and some interesting hikes to fill the day.

This is a simple but delightful place with of course the most amazing view of the mighty Mekong River. Most people are just passing through either up river to Thai border or down river to Luang Prabang, so the town does have a bit of a feel of a transport ‘node’. We stayed 2 nights so could relax and enjoy the pool and views and a visit to the wonderful elephant sanctuary (separate review). Rooms are simple, clean with epic views. It’s all a bit noisy with most people departing for their 6.30am boat, but that is the nature of the place. Food was simple and delicious (all meals) and all the staff trying so hard to make your stay special. So we gave it 5* reflecting what it is and where it is.

Just the coolest, most chilled place. Overlooking the Mekong and providing their own fresh vegetables from the gardens terracing the hillside. If you are a concrete and glass .modern hotel type, its not you. If you love character, it has got it in spades. Has a pool , internet, great views of the Mekong and the elephant sanctuary teary opposite. Not much in Pak Beng, take some cash as ATM s are sketchy but a cool little town.

We were on the Nagi of Mekong 2-day cruise toward Luang Prabang and booked Sanctuary for one night along the way. We were driven the short but bumpy ride from boat to hotel and given a room overlooking the river. The room is posh but somewhat impractical...anyway is was quite pleasant and I wish we'd had more time there. They served us a simple breakfast and drove us to our boat in the morning. We were glad to be near town so we could walk down and have dinner.
