“Great stay”

A one night stay to attend Le Chat Noir at The Lost Estate. This hotel was ideally located for our needs, very close to Earls Court Station amd just 1 stop away from West Kensington. Lovely hotel with friendly staff, especially Roger during breakfast service. Would definitely stay again.

This property is in a great location just a block from the Earls Court tube station on the Picadilly & District lines which made it very easy to get anywhere we wanted in the city. The building is in a row of older row houses and is charming. The room was small, but adequate. It was very dark, though, and the lighting wasn’t great. Our desk was tucked away in a little alcove, but there was no lamp/light there, so it was useless. We had 2 robes, which was lovely, but one was pretty ratty – about ready for the rag pile. The bathroom was quite small. it had a small shelf for toiletries, but absolutely no place for towels. If they want us to help the environment and reuse them, then they must provide a place to hang them up so they can dry. The light in the makeup mirror didn’t work. The shower was very slippery even with no-skid dots. There was only a half shower wall so water splashed all over. The water pressure was fair – it was better with the handheld faucet, but that’s difficult to maneuver. The rain shower head was easier, but had less pressure. They had what we call slimy water – not sure if it was due to the water itself or the shower gel that never felt like it was rinsed off. I know the gel is ecologically better, but we really hate its sliminess. They have an excellent breakfast – a combination of buffet & ordering off the menu and lots of good choices. Staff was all good – friendly and helpful (except that the hotel has no maps of either the city or the tube). The bartender was great when I asked for some Ice for my foot, even providing a towel to wrap the ice in. The ceiling light in our room went out on our third night and no one could replace the bulb except during business hours, so the room was even darker than usual. On our first 2 nights there was a hole in our ceiling looking up into the lighted ventilation ducts. We came back on our third night to find a brand-new grate had been installed. That was nice, but it was disconcerting to know that someone other than housekeeping had been in our room without asking our permission or notifying us. But overall, it was a good stay and we’d likely return.

I really wanted to love this stay because the location is absolutely perfect - it’s literally a 2-minute walk to the Earl’s Court tube station, which makes getting around London very convenient. The decor throughout the hotel is genuinely gorgeous. However, the room itself left a lot to be desired. It was cramped, and the bed felt quite small for two people. Most frustratingly, the bed frame creaked every single time I moved, which made it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. On top of that, the bathroom had a noticeable damp smell that wasn’t very pleasant. For the price, I expected a much higher standard of comfort and maintenance.
