“económico - básico”

budget hostel, well located, you get what you have paid for. no more, no less.clean enough. short beds for a big guy like me (1,85 cm). no lift. bad if you are carrying heavy luggage. no service whatsoever, but again, what do you expect for such low rates in the heart of Madrid!.

We chose this hostel/hotel for the location and the price. We were three people sharing the room so I guess €95 a night for a private room was decent. Better than a shared room with shared bathroom in a hostel but definitely less comfort than in a regular hotel. Let me start with the check in process aka finding the hostel. After standing in front of the hostel (regular looking apartment building) for a few minutes ringing the bell we got an answer through the intercom to walk around the corner to a different hotel and check in at their reception. So we went with our luggage to the reception and checked in. It took a little bit longer than expected but okay. After that we were told how to get into the building and check out. We were also informed that they had lockers were we could deposit our luggage after checking our for a fee. After checking and on our way to our room we discovered that the hotel did not have an elevator and we had to carry our heavy luggage to the worth floor on very slippery wooden stairs. Once finally in our room we were welcomed by a weird smell. We had a room with a double bed and a single bed. The double bed was decent and the single bed very uncomfortable. There was a big nice picture of Madid on the wall and we had our private bathroom. But no towels. So we called reception and asked for some. No one brought them to us so we had to walk down the stairs, go around the corner, get on the elevator, go to the registration, take the towels, taking the elevator back, walking with some towels around the corner during dinner time, I bet it looked weird, and walking back to the forth floor. Hurray! So all in one the room was okay but the smell was a bit disturbing. The stairs were really annoying and dangerous while walking down with a big suitcase. It requires two people so you don't fall. And what really upset me was that the lockers mentioned are automatic. So you have to pay €2 to use them BUT you can only open them once. So each of us had to get their own locker as we were leaving at the same time. I'd been okay with paying the €2 per room but I think it is a little bit excessive to ask for €2 every time you open the locker. Nevertheless, the hotel is in a very good location! So if you want to stay in the city centre without paying a fortune this might be a good option.

Perfect location. No lifts, you will struggle with heavy suitcases like we did. Reception around the corner, no problem with that. We asked for a double and got two single beds pushed together. Perfect location. No lifts, you will struggle with heavy suitcases like we did. Reception around the corner, no problem with that. We asked for a double and got two single beds pushed together. I felt we were cheated. Room was clean. There was a very bad smell, though. Partly from lack of ventilation, partly from the smell that came through the window. Window opens to a light tunnel with noisy air-cons and back of restaurants. Very little light, too. Overall it will serve to sleep and stay central. Stayed at better hotels for the same price in Madrid before.

“Great locations but beds from hell”

Cannot fault the location! The bar downstairs is highly recommended and great for a drink to prepare you for the 75 steps up to the forth floor!! Cannot fault the location! The bar downstairs is highly recommended and great for a drink to prepare you for the 75 steps up to the forth floor!! The beds however were absolutely awful and so hard we slept terribly for 3 nights. We didnt expect a view but a shower head attached to the wall would have been nice. Their way of stopping guests taking an enjoyable long shower i guess. Towels were thin and changed every 2 days. They should be replaced. Would I recommend the hostal? No. Reception at the hotel round the corner were your typically grumpy Spanish. I would find a better one in the same location thojgh.
