We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of January. This place is all about location. A 5 minute walk from Sol and the many bars and restaurants in the surrounding area. We found it easily enough but we have stayed nearby before so are familiar with the area. The lady who greeted only had limited English but combined with my even more basic Spanish we still managed to communicate ok! You have to remember that it’s a basic 2 star pension at a decent price when reviewing it. It’s no frills but clean and a perfectly adequate base while visiting the city. Given it’s position on a busy road noise wasn’t an issue in the room and we never heard any of the other guests despite it being full during our stay. I would definitely consider staying here again on my next visit to Madrid.

This is a great place to stay when you eventually find it, it is located on a busy road and we initially walked past it as the entrance is tucked away between two shops. It is in a building that has several hostals within it and is located on the 3rd floor. The rooms were small but given the price we paid we didn’t expect anything different and I’d have to say that as it is located in the heart of Madrid it represents excellent value for money. It is worth mentioning that the place is very basic but comfortable and there are hardly any facilities available such as breakfast but the hostal is clean and well maintained and the reception is manned 24 hours a day, We used it as a base for exploring the city for which it is perfectly placed. The staff were very helpful and friendly although the language barrier was testing at times but the reception staff were excellent, they helped us order tickets for a Madrid football match and had them delivered to the hostal for us. Its location is excellent as everything is within walking distance but if you wanted to travel further out then there are two tube stations only 5 minutes walk away. We really enjoyed staying at the Hostal Carrera and would definitely stay there again. If you are looking for luxury then I would suggest you try elsewhere but if you are looking for a cheap, clean hotel in the heart of Madrid then I would definitely recommend the Carrera.

Very basic and definitely no frills. I did not know this was a hostel until I arrived, I assumed it was just a small/local hotel. The room was very small, I mean small..again, it could be normal for a hostel, I don’t know. The bed was comfortable the bathroom was tiny but the room itself served my basic needs. No, breakfast or food available, but there is a coffee machine at the front desk. The WiFi is free, but it was really slow and went in and out. The location is amazing and I think that is the selling point. You’re a few blocks from Puerto del Sol where there is always action. Across the street is Maestro Churrero where you can get churros and chocolate 24 hrs. Plenty of bars and restaurants in the area and close to most museums. Note: For those that are not Spanish speaking, some basic Spanish may be helpful as no one at the front desk speaks English. None the less, they were so kind and helpful. I lost my plug/adaptor and the woman at the front desk found one for me to borrow during my entire stay. Also, there is no 24 hour front desk, the hours are limited so if you have any needs after hours you need to call the number on the door. If you are all about location and just need a place to sleep while I’m Centro Madrid, this is the place.

It was a very nice place, once you found it, and the staff were very nice... once you found them. Some of the staff didn't speak English (which is 100% understandable) so it was difficult at times to communicate, but the man who was usually at the desk was very kind and he went out of his way to be helpful with directions and advice. It was an odd set up, in fact, I'm not sure anyone else was actually staying there- I never saw anyone else. It was an older place, but very clean. It was quiet and very close to restaurants and shopping. The metro was probably 3 or 4 blocks away, but it was beautiful weather so we didn't mind much. Overall, I'd stay there again- it was a good place for the price.
