“Great location”

Stayed there for one day only as we needed a day room for a late flight. The location is great on Arenal that is a street just off Sol. Stayed there for one day only as we needed a day room for a late flight. The location is great on Arenal that is a street just off Sol. The building does not have a functioning elevator so you have to be ready to walk up to the 4th floor. The bedding was clean, shower and WC clean. This is a very old building and this is not accommodation for everyone. We stayed in an apartment for 2 person on the second floor and above was a family with a child that was like the Energizer Bunny and ran and jumped the whole time so the noice was in our room as well. Check in is very easy, you download an app when you have paid for the apartment and you open the building and apartment with a key on your phone. You never meet any staff on the premises.

Apartment was great value for money and cheap. The location was great and quiet considering it was central. The apartment had great ammeneties and the staff were lovely and helpful, easy access to the apartment via phone app. Issues were the apartment wasn't clean. Ammeneties were dirty and the sofa was very stained and dirty. Additionally not an issue for us but the apartment does not have any privacy. There are no doors between bedrooms, only on bathrooms. Overall would visit again, good value for money, just a few issues.

POSITIVES 1. The location. 2. The beds, 2 singles and a double sofa bed, were very comfortable. 3. Ensuite bathroom for each sleeping area. 4. Terrace and pleasant view from kitchen/lounge area. 5. Helpfulness of staff in nearby reception office and on the telephone when it was necessary to solve initial access problems. 6. Kitchen facilities, including fridge, microwave and small ceramic hob adequate for a short stay 7. Agreement, in our case, to waive damage deposit. 8. Quick response to clarification seeking emails. NEGATIVES 1. Lack of ascensor access to booked apartment (4th Floor) Only indicated in later email, not on Booking.com webpage. 2. Payment system. Instead of a direct debit from the credit card details provided on booking, as per normal, it was necessary to follow a sent email link. This raised security concerns. Fortunately no problems. 3.Remote registration via mobile app, rather than face to face, i.e. downloading of face and ID photos we found confusing, never having encountered this procedure before, and having to do it on Madrid bound train as details sent by email at a late stage. All of this could have been explained better. 4. Apartment entry system. Again, via mobile app using bluetooth to operate lock. A bit confusing for a first timer, especially as we initially arrrived at the wrong address. Having discovered there was a reception office still open a few doors away we were directed to the right address and told instead of using the app we could enter building and apartment codes on a keyboard. This systm worked well, so used it throughout our stay. Would have been helpful to know this in advance. 5. Airco. Barely adequate. July in Madrid is very hot. Unfortunately the airco in both sleeping areas didn't seem to be functioning well. 6. The requested damage deposit seemed excessive and unnecessary for a 76 year old academic and two colleagues on a cultural visit. We managed to get this waived. (I understand there are sometimes problems with irresponsible partying and binge drinking groups.)
