Had an awesome stay with DoubleTree Hilton Penang. The Staff, the Service, the Ambience and Comfort was impeccable. Hotel team went out of their way to ensure our enjoyment and satisfaction. Special mentions goes to Vani, Faizal, Faiz, Wan and the team. Highly recommend the Hotel.

Road trip from Singapore through KL and decided to extend to take in sights and delights of Penang. Stayed with husband and children and not disappointed. Had great stay. Nice sized pool, although no real pool service to speak of. Kids area with shallow pool, climbing frame, big water bucket and the likes and in the shade. Access to beach is across a bridge but OK for walking but no relaxing or bathing. Check in was quiet (as was hotel during our stay) Greeted and checked in by Miss/Mrs Shalene who was a darling and made us feel immediately welcome. Room was very clean and spotless and during our stay towels and little amenities in bathroom were all topped up nice. Good sea view and nice balcony area. Breakfast is served at Makan Kitchen seems like an international type restaurant with a little more focus on local. Plenty to eat although the quality of some food items could be improved upon. Certain dishes looked like they were feeding a 1000 people, were piled high and had been out since 6am so when we arrived at 9.30am it looked poor and had no taste. Why can't kitchen continuously cook like other hotels do in small quality batches. It is a hotel restaurant not a factory canteen. Service was up and down and some days great, other days not so. Egg station won't cook fresh fried egg and when asked for a fresh one, the man pointed at a bowl that had 50+ dried up stale fried eggs that look hours old. The hotel has a lounge called Axis (open windows so can a little hot but they have very large and noisy AC units). We were looked after well by the team. Food menu is not particularly inspiring and quality again not as good as it should be. Food is very basic and just Chicken Nuggets, Chicken Wings, Fries, Burger, Sausage, Pizza and Satay. Felt like I was in KFC or Pizza Hut not a DoubleTree Hotel. The pool menu is the same as Axis menu so if you stay for more than two days you will run out of food options to eat. Hotel can do much better. The Malaysia Tourist adverts in Singapore talk about a culinary experience in Malaysia... all Axis and Poolside bar gave was American fast food. Overall, we will definitely return on our next trip in September. Food both in Axis Lounge, Poolside and Makan restaurant could be so much better, room was great and well looked after, general service is up and down depending on who you see. Big thanks to Miss/Mrs Shalene for your great welcome, big smile, insight into the local area and the cookies for our family.

I have stayed at DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang three times now, and my first two visits were genuinely enjoyable. Sadly, this most recent stay — a two-night trip with my brother and a friend in the Family Two Bedroom Suite — was marred by a series of frustrating issues that made what should have been a relaxing getaway far more stressful than it needed to be.   From the moment we arrived, things felt off. The open lobby, while charming in concept, was extremely warm, and the cooling fans provided were blowing only warm air. After a tiring journey, all we wanted was to sit and rest — but we had to wait over half an hour for our room to be ready.   Once inside, the rooms were clean and spacious, which was a relief. However, the master bedroom was uncomfortably warm despite the aircon being on. The kitchen tap dial was also loose and non-functional — we had to call room service to get it fixed. Then we discovered that all three televisions in the suite were showing "not in service" across every channel. We called for a technician, and then we waited some more.   Technicians Yazid, Yagdish, and Kasi were professional, polite, and clearly doing their best. The TVs were eventually fixed. The aircon in the master bedroom, however, remained a problem. By 10 pm, a second visit still had not resolved it, and I did not get to sleep until 12:30 am. The next morning, my brother revealed he had started perspiring in the night — the room never properly cooled. On top of this, the bathroom sink in the room I shared with my friend drained very slowly, which was particularly unpleasant.   The following morning, the front desk proactively asked how our stay was going. When I explained the situation, the staff immediately offered to move us to another room. Though it was an inconvenience, we agreed — and I'm glad we did. Front Office Manager Mohd Faizal was excellent: he apologised sincerely, arranged for our dinner that evening at the hotel restaurant to be complimentary, and personally asked to be contacted for our next stay. His handling of the situation was genuinely impressive.   On the brighter side: the sea view was beautiful, the beds were wonderfully comfortable, and the linen was luxuriously soft — once you're under the duvet, you simply do not want to leave. Concierge staff member Ramesh greeted us warmly on arrival and personally carried our bags to the room. Housekeeping staff Hossen was friendly and attentive throughout.   This hotel has real strengths, and I have fond memories of past visits. But a night without proper air conditioning in Malaysia's heat, compounded by multiple maintenance issues on check-in day, is difficult to overlook. I hope this visit reflects a temporary dip rather than a change in standards, and I remain hopeful that my next stay — with Mohd Faizal's assurance — will be a return to form.
