“Relaxation & hiking”

Wonderful stay at this lovely resort. Staff very helpful, friendly and professional. Nothing was too much trouble. Great forest hiking nearby. We had a fantastic Iban cooking lesson with executive chef Mario and his team. Highly recommend.

It is a lovely resort, but it needs some maintenance. Painting in rooms, doors sticking and the pool has tiles falling off and pool chairs all need painting. The food was fantastic though which really made the stay. We had half board which was breakfast and dinner and both were great, we even got a bottle of wine included with dinner.

“Not to the standard I expected”

I was so looking forward to our 3 night stay at Cove 55, but sadly it did not match my expectations. On the plus side, the restaurant and food was excellent, as was the luxury transfer service to and from the airport. However, the hotel is badly in need a refurbishment and some areas are quite tatty. Particularly the swimming pool, which should be such a plus point of the hotel. There were many tiles missing from the pool, the bar was run down with old furniture that needs replacing, as do the sunbeds which are frankly disgusting. We booked a corner suite, but were disappointed to find it didn't have a balcony - although the room was very nice otherwise. The towels are old and thin, and again desperately in need of replacement. During our stay, food was left outside the room next door to ours, where it stayed for over 24 hours, attracting flies. Eventually I had to ask Reception to get it removed. This is not what I expected from a hotel charging such high room rates.

The main building we stayed in, which also houses the restaurant, is badly in need of maintenancence. There is mould marking in the ceiling that you can see while sitting inside the restaurant. The door into the building looks old, cracked, and peeling; the door handle looks like something you do not want to touch. The garden gate / door of the ground floor rooms are all cracked and just looked bad from outside. The pool is missing more than a couple of tiles. We had local food for breakfast —Singapore noodles and Sarawak Laksa. It was really BAD! It was my first time in Kuching, and had I have the best Sarawak Laksa in Choon Hui Cafe, it would have put me off this dish forever. It tasted like water mixed with curry powder, and added some noodles with small dried tofu. For a supposed 5-stars luxurious hotel, it is NOT. The real saving grace of all is the staff! They were absolutely fabulous.
