A fantastic hotel in a central location in Kuala Lumpur with very friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast buffet in Makan Kitchen is excellent, offering four different sections with Chinese, Indian, Malaysian, and Western dishes. The weekday lunch buffet is also outstanding and very reasonably priced. Furthermore, the Toska restaurant downstairs next to the pool and gym is highly recommended. I don't even know where to begin – the breakfast buffet is among the best I've ever experienced anywhere in the world, both in terms of selection and quality. Whether you prefer Asian or European cuisine, there's something for everyone. The Chinese section is located just to the right of the entrance and is often overlooked. I couldn't possibly list everything they offer. I particularly enjoyed the fried noodles, the rice, the various dim sum, the spring rolls, and much more. In the large restaurant, the Makan Kitchen is located in the center, surrounded by the magnificent buffet. To the right at the front, you'll find various salads, nuts, and dressings, and behind them, fruits such as watermelon, papaya, melon, bananas, apples, and so on, as well as various types of cold cuts and cheeses. Then comes the area where you can have soup made to order – with various ingredients and types of noodles. Next is a station for fried eggs, omelets, boiled eggs, and so on. To the right of that is the Indian buffet with all sorts of Indian dishes like chicken and fish curry. In the back of Makan Kitchen, you'll find the Western breakfast with mushrooms, stir-fried vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower, and fried potatoes. After that comes the area with Malaysian specialties, sweets like jams, cakes, and pastries. Finally, there's a large selection of breads and rolls. Various juices, coffee, and tea are also available. I always go for breakfast first thing in the morning at 6:30. It's still quite quiet then, and you can have a relaxed breakfast. I sit in the small alcove to the left of the buffet. There's always a large bowl waiting for me there. I enjoy Asian food, of course, and I also like to make my own soup. I give the chef at the soup station a few ingredients, which he then boils in hot water and pours into my bowl of one of the soups on offer – Tom Yam or chicken soup. The bowl is only half full, though, so I have room to customize it myself, for example with fried noodles, rice, dim sum, fried mushrooms and vegetables, or with chicken curry – completely meat-free, just with sauce, chili, and other ingredients. Absolutely delicious! I also make myself a plate of mixed salad and fruit. A truly fantastic breakfast and a superb team – that's the only reason I come to the DoubleTree in Kuala Lumpur, to enjoy the excellent service here. As a Lifetime Diamond Member (at least 1,000 overnight stays and 10 years of Diamond membership), I always receive an upgrade to a lovely suite. This time, I was kindly upgraded again to a terrace suite—thank you again, Daniel! It's fully furnished and has a shower, bathtub, toilet, and sink; a double bed; a sofa and desk in the bedroom and living room; a wardrobe; a safe; an iron and ironing board; TVs in both rooms; a refrigerator; a coffee maker; and tea and coffee. There's also a large terrace with seating and a fantastic view of the city and the Petronas Towers. A few sweets and some fruit are provided as a welcome gift. Depending on your status, breakfast is complimentary, and you may receive an upgrade. As a Diamond member, you also have access to the Executive Lounge (subject to availability), where you can enjoy complimentary drinks, coffee and cake in the afternoon, as well as a happy hour in the evening with snacks, canapés, and alcoholic beverages. Great location in a shopping center with many shops, restaurants, a McDonald's, and a supermarket. The Ampang Park metro station is only about 200 meters away, but I prefer to walk. In 10–15 minutes, you can reach the Petronas Towers, which also house an aquarium. From there, it's another 10–15 minute walk to Bukit Bintang. From the Petronas Towers, an air-conditioned pedestrian walkway leads directly into a large shopping center with many international brands, which I would find too expensive. If you walk through the shopping center to the beautiful fountain and then turn right, you'll reach the Bukit Bintang metro station. There's a McDonald's there, and to the left of it are two currency exchange offices. Here you'll find the best exchange rates, not only for Malaysian Ringgit but also for exchanging Ringgit into other international currencies. The spread between the dollar and Ringgit is only 1%. (Cheaper than any credit card) The cheapest exchange bureaus used to be across from the hotel in the Ampang Mall, but unfortunately, it was demolished a few years ago. From Bukit Bintang, I usually walk to Chinatown, then to the Botanic Gardens and on to the Negara Planetarium, which is usually closed when I visit. Therefore, it's advisable to check the opening times online beforehand. From there, I continue to the National Mosque of Malaysia. Nearby are the Museum of Islamic Art and the Royal Police Museum of Malaysia, and the Botanic Gardens also have a butterfly and bird park. From the National Mosque, I walk to the City Gallery and Merdeka Square, where you can take some great photos. Afterward, I head to the Central Market with its many small shops selling Malaysian handicrafts, paintings, and other items. Then I continue to the Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad Mosque on a small peninsula and from there through the Indian Quarter back to the hotel. A very nice excursion leads up to the Kuala Lumpur Tower and from there to the Eco Park with its treetop walkways. Of course, you can also travel the entire route by subway or bus. There's also a free bus on a specific route, but I've never used it. The Botanic Gardens have a great playground for children, and there's a huge playground behind the Petronas Towers. We are a couple aged in our 70s nearing the end of an amazing 3-week holiday in Malaysia and nearing the end of our second stay at the Double Tree KL. We've stayed in some wonderful hotels during our trip but the Double Tree KL was by far the best value. We paid just AUD 230 a night for an Executive Suite with Executive Lounge access, which provides the choice of a buffet breakfast in the main restaurant or a more private one in the lounge. We chose the buffet every time because of the amazing variety of food - everything from simple porridge to curries and even fish florentine. They serve afternoon tea in the lounge but the value kicks in at the evening cocktails (5.30-7.30) with delicious food and unlimited drinks, including decent red and white wine, mocktails and alcoholic cocktails, and spirits. But the standout for us was the service and ever-smiling friendly staff, especially in the lounge. Magis and Tua in particular were fantastic, as were the other chefs, both in the lounge and the breakfast restaurant. My wife suffers from a severe Mon Sodium Glutamate (MSG) allergy and the chefs went above and beyond to ensure she was aware of what not to eat. They even cooked a special meal for her in the lounge to make sure she was able to enjoy a MSG-free dinner every night. Another positive is that the hotel is only a short Grab ride from most of the main KL attractions. We never paid more than AUD 5 for a trip.

I want to compliment the DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur team. During check-in, Ms. Erna was excellent and confirmed me of a room upgrade that was accorded to Diamond member. Thanks. The warm cookie at arrival was a nice touch which is a usual signature of every Double Tree hotel brand. My room on the 17th floor had great city views and was clean. During my stay on 14 February 2026, a power outage occurred around 3am and lasted until checkout. The corridors dark, lifts functioning, and breakfast at Makan Restaurant served in dim natural light only. The staff however deserve my respect. They tried and still served even in the dark with a torchligh or their phone light. They still prepared the hot dish and egg even in hot condition without AC.. It was a challenging time indeed and I was informed this was the first such incident ever since the hotel started. However, I would like to highlight about the communication during such big incidents. Communication was poor despite app chat and WhatsApp options. I had to text repeatedly just to get the information of why there is no electricity during my stay. I checked almost every two hours for updates. This was not convenient for a guest. Suggestion: Train staff on proactive updates during issues. Use the Hilton app for real-time alerts to all guests. I compliment their remedial recovery options. I was offered a recovery points to compensate my point redemption stay. At the Executive Lounge, trainees Ms. Chaya and her colleague were very helpful and attentive. The food and service is good.
