I stayed at Hilton Garden Inn in Kuala Lumpur with my family and it was a pretty descent stay. Very clean and comfortable. Great location. A little point of critics: the room was not totally soundproof, I could hear the neighbors. Friendly staf at reception.

As a seasoned traveller from the UK, I’ve been fortunate enough to stay in hotels all over the world. On this particular adventure, I was embarking on a whirlwind tour of Singapore, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. If I’m honest, Kuala Lumpur was the destination I knew the least about and, as a result, I arrived with very few expectations. Sometimes that’s the best way to travel. We landed in the early hours of the morning, and there was something strangely exhilarating about arriving in a city at 3am. It transported me back to my twenties, when the streets would still be alive after a night out. The glow of the streetlights, the quiet hum of traffic, the people finishing their evenings while others were already beginning their day—it gave Kuala Lumpur an energy that immediately drew me in. Rather than taking a taxi, we caught the train from the airport into the city centre before walking through the streets to the Hilton Garden Inn Kuala Lumpur Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman South. That walk turned out to be one of my favourite first impressions of any city. It allowed us to experience Kuala Lumpur as it really was—peaceful yet vibrant, calm yet unmistakably alive. Every street seemed to hint at the adventures that lay ahead, and the excitement was impossible to ignore. Despite arriving at an hour when most people are fast asleep, the welcome at the hotel couldn’t have been warmer. The reception staff were genuinely friendly, efficient and professional, immediately recognising our Hilton Diamond status, which made us feel valued from the moment we checked in. After a long journey, that personal touch made all the difference. Our room was exactly what we needed: modern, comfortable and immaculately clean, with views stretching out across the Kuala Lumpur skyline. After grabbing a few hours of much-needed sleep, we headed down for breakfast—and this is where the hotel really surprised me. The breakfast offered all the familiar comforts, from eggs, cereals and cheeses to fresh fruit, but the highlight was undoubtedly the make-your-own ramen station. Being able to prepare your own bowl by heating the noodles and choosing from a selection of broths, sauces and toppings was a brilliant touch. As someone who absolutely loves ramen—it has become one of my favourite meals back home in the UK—I was genuinely in heaven. It was a wonderful introduction to the flavours of Southeast Asia and far more memorable than the average hotel breakfast. After breakfast we walked 2mins away to Chow Kit market, incredible! With breakfast finished, we made our way up to the rooftop swimming pool. Early in the morning it was blissfully quiet, giving us the space to relax, enjoy the sunshine and take in the views across the city. It felt like the perfect way to pause before diving headfirst into the adventures waiting for us across Southeast Asia. The Hilton Garden Inn isn’t a sprawling luxury resort, nor does it pretend to be. Instead, it delivers exactly what many travellers are looking for: exceptional value, warm hospitality, comfortable rooms, thoughtful touches and an ideal base from which to explore one of Asia’s most fascinating cities. Looking back, this hotel became far more than just somewhere to sleep. It marked the beginning of an unforgettable journey and gave us the perfect introduction to Kuala Lumpur. Sometimes the first chapter of a trip sets the tone for everything that follows, and thanks to the friendly staff, excellent breakfast, rooftop pool and welcoming atmosphere, this hotel did exactly that.
