“Below expectation”

Below expectation and quality of food at Lounge and during breakfast has dropped. Last stayed here in 2025 and the food then was excellent. As always, breakfast at the cafe was crowded but quality has dropped and there were less options.

This top-of-the-line Marriott hotel is only okay. It met my expectation, but did not exceed it as other JW Marriott hotels (for example, the Hanoi JW was fantastic). This top-of-the-line Marriott hotel is only okay. It met my expectation, but did not exceed it as other JW Marriott hotels (for example, the Hanoi JW was fantastic). Although very fancy, it is an older hotel, and sometimes showed its age. Although our room had great view, the door had cracks around the latch, and the sound proofing was not great. I could hear a crying baby in the next room, and the noise from motorcycles in the streets was loud at night (we were on the 12th floor). It also had the old manual water hose instead of the integrated Japanese washlet toilets many newer hotels now have. The lounge was large and there was usually a table for you (no waiting). It served good food except for the sushi, which was not up to standard, with dry and hard rice (I tried it over several days to make sure it wasn't just a fluke). The gym was large and fully equipped. Shook, their breakfast restaurant, was huge and had a great assortment of food, with an emphasis on vegetarian and chicken cuisine (which is healthy and suits my taste, but I found that a lot of the local dishes were somewhat too salty). It lacked local fruits though (jackfruit, longan, etc.). The location was good, in the middle of the posh part of the city, with access to a few fancy malls nearby. We discovered from talking to the lounge staff a covered and mostly air-conditioned walkway from across the street to the Petronas Twin Tower that cut walking time by a lot and also kept us from sweating in the tropical heat. In summary, it's a good hotel to stay at, and met but did not exceed my expectation.
