During my recent stay at Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur, I encountered two individuals whose service genuinely left an impression on me. What they did may not sound like something extraordinary, but it was the sincerity behind their actions that made all the difference. The first person I would like to recognize is Jasmine from the breakfast restaurant. On my first morning, I told Jasmine that if possible, I would prefer to sit at the brighter side of the restaurant as I do not really enjoy dining in darker areas. Unfortunately, it was during the breakfast peak hour and most of the tables at the brighter side were already occupied. Understanding the situation, I simply settled down at a table somewhere in between. I thought that was the end of the story. But apparently, Jasmine did not think so. While I was away collecting my breakfast, she continued looking around the restaurant for a suitable table. When I returned to my seat, she came over and said, "Sir, I found a table that better suits your preference. Would you like to move over?" I smile to myself inside my heart, not because I got a brighter table, but because I realized she genuinely cared. The truth is, she could have easily done nothing. Most people would have. After all, she had already explained that the restaurant was full. Yet she remembered my preference and continued looking for a solution even after I had accepted the situation. That is what impressed me. The next morning, she surprised me again. As I walked into the restaurant, she greeted me by my surname. Honestly, I was shocked. Somehow, she had taken the effort to find out my name simply so she could greet me personally. It was such a small gesture, but it made me feel welcomed and remembered. Many people talk about personalized service, but Jasmine actually delivered it. To some guests, these might just be little details. To me, these are the details that matter the most. Luxury is not always about expensive furniture or beautiful decorations. Sometimes it is simply about making someone feel seen. The second person I would like to recognize is Mr. Salim, the Club Lounge Manager. I have visited many lounges across Kuala Lumpur, including The Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott and The Westin. Yet if someone asks me today which lounge impressed me the most, my answer would be Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur. And the reason is simple. The atmosphere felt different. During every happy hour session, I could see Mr. Salim moving around the lounge, talking to guests, checking on tables and making sure everyone was well looked after. What stood out to me was that he did not behave like someone managing a lounge. He behaved like someone welcoming guests into his own home. There was a warmth in the way he interacted with people. At first, I thought perhaps he was working so hard because he did not have enough support from his team. Then I started paying attention to the team itself. To my surprise, many of them were interns from universities. Yet their performance was remarkable. They proactively cleared used plates, checked on guests regularly and anticipated needs before requests were even made. In fact, there were several times when I wanted to get a drink for myself, but before I could even reach the coffee machine, one of the associates had already approached me to ask what I would like to have. That level of attentiveness is not something that happens by accident. It reflects leadership. It reflects training. Most importantly, it reflects culture. Later, during a conversation with Mr. Salim, I learned that Jasmine had only completed her internship two weeks ago and was previously under his guidance. At that moment, everything connected. I suddenly understood why I had experienced such genuine service from Jasmine. She was a reflection of the culture that Mr. Salim has built. As a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite member, I have stayed at many Marriott properties and I admit that my expectations are often very high. Not many people manage to surprise me when it comes to service. Jasmine did. Mr. Salim did. One impressed me through her genuine care for a guest she barely knew. The other impressed me through the culture of hospitality he has successfully created. I simply wanted to write this letter because good people deserve to be recognized. Jasmine, thank you for caring. Mr. Salim, thank you for leading. I saw your efforts, and they made a difference.
