Confirmation No : 93556013 Date of Stay : March 11th to March 20th 2026 I just landed at the St. Regis in Singapore, and I’m already missing the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur. As an American who has been visiting Malaysia once or twice a year for the past 23 years, I’ve always been a creature of habit. For over two decades, my go-to has been the Hilton Kuala Lumpur. It was convenient, familiar, and right by KL Sentral. I never really considered staying elsewhere. That is, until a friend recently told me, “This hotel is very much your style, you should try it.” One of the main reasons I hesitated was because I assumed the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur was farther from KL Sentral. Little did I know, there is a seamless pathway that makes it incredibly convenient, along with a complimentary shuttle service that I had never been aware of. Safe to say, I wish I had made the switch much earlier. Now let’s get to what truly sets this property apart: the people. I have stayed at other St. Regis properties, including Aspen and New York. Aspen was outstanding and truly memorable. I have a deep love for hotels—just last year I stayed at the Capella Bangkok, ranked the number one hotel in the world—and this experience is truly comparable.However, what makes the Kuala Lumpur property exceptional is the staff. They are genuinely happy to be there, engaged, and incredibly well-trained. And I do not say this lightly. My background is in hospitality. I spent 17 years with Hilton, worked with Langham Hospitality in Chicago. I now run my an event planning firm in Chicago, producing events around the world. I understand service at a very granular level. What I experienced here is something rare. Guest recognition is easily a 10 out of 10. Every team member makes a concerted effort to address you by name. That level of personalization is something you simply do not see consistently anymore. On my first morning at breakfast, I mentioned to the Manager that I could not have the dim sum on display due to a shellfish allergy and asked if I could have dim sum made with chicken and vegetables. I also requested for mangoes. For the the fret of my entire trip, without fail, a platter of mango was presented to me every morning, along with an offer to prepare special dim sum if I wished. I had only asked once. What impressed me even more was the consistency. There was a hostess, a young Chinese girl (Rita perhaps? ) who was off for two consecutive days. Yet, the colleague covering for her knew my exact preferences. Whether it was detailed notes or exceptional communication, the system works flawlessly. Even a server who brought me coffee one morning remembered that I did like my coffee in a pot, based on the previous day. That level of attention is not accidental. It is culture. The butler service is also worth mentioning. Compared to other properties, including Singapore, the accessibility and responsiveness here truly stand out. The fact that they provide complimentary hot and cold beverages 24 hours a day is a major plus. As someone who works late, this made a difference. On my last night, I ordered a pot of tea at 2:00 AM, and it was promptly delivered. That is impressive. Natasha was my personal butler and she was excellent. Now, the rooms. While the bedding meets the St. Regis standard of comfort, what truly stands out is the size. The entry-level rooms are already larger than most hotel rooms in Kuala Lumpur. There is no real need for an upgrade. The separate closet area is also a thoughtful touch, especially for longer stays, as it keeps everything organized and tidy. I also enjoyed room service (Hamizan) and had breakfast daily, both of which were consistently excellent. The offerings were generous and well-executed. If I had to point out one minor preference, it would be the bar downstairs. It leans toward a smoking or cigar environment, which is not my personal preference. That said, it aligns with the concept, and there are plenty of other spaces within the hotel to enjoy. Across the board, the team is exceptional. The brasserie staff, including the managers, were polished, articulate, and warm. The hostess team was impeccable. Service staff were attentive and intuitive. There was a young woman in the Drawing Room who was perpetually cheerful. Truly a joy to interact with. I believe her name was Hanizah. The bell desk and front office teams were equally impressive. One detail that stood out culturally was that staff would remove their shoes when entering the room. This is something I have not experienced in other properties and found to be a thoughtful and respectful gesture. A special mention must go to the concierge team, particularly Izam. Without me even asking, he offered to personally go to shopping mall to pick up my alterations. He handled it himself and kept me updated throughout. That level of initiative and ownership is something you rarely see, and it speaks volumes about the culture of service here. During my stay, there was also a possibility that I might need to extend due to a personal situation involving my mother. The team was incredibly responsive, kind, and accommodating throughout. While I ultimately had to return, the care and understanding they showed meant a great deal. I will absolutely be back, and there is no question where I will be staying. I have to admit, I did go to dinner at the Hilton one evening out of habit, and I almost felt like I was cheating. That says a lot. You have officially converted me. This will be my home every time I return to Kuala Lumpur. Finally, I want to recognize something that often goes unseen but is critical to success: Hiring the right people. Great service begins with great hiring, training, and culture. Kudos to you and your team. You have clearly built a strong foundation by hiring the right people, training them exceptionally well, and maintaining that standard. Your team members are your greatest asset. With new luxury properties like the Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, and Langham entering the Kuala Lumpur market, competition will only grow. My sincere hope is that you continue to invest in and retain your staff, because they are your true differentiator. They are not just part of the experience. They are the experience. And finally, a small and perhaps slightly indulgent request. Your chicken satay is excellent, but I have a personal preference. I love the smaller skewers, ideally six of them, with a generous portion of rice and plenty of peanut sauce. I have a feeling that the next time I arrive, you may already have that, along with a full basket of mangoes, waiting for me. That would truly be a dream. I cannot wait to be back. Bravo to the entire team at St. Regis Kuala Lumpur.
