La Casa de Mama is a really great hotel. It's well designed, wrapped around a central patio with a pool. It is a modern building but has a colonial look and above all it has a really good feel to it. The staff were all really welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. There aren't many hotels in San Cristobal that have pools, and this one - though small - is wonderful, not least because it is heated. The highlight of every day was getting back and diving into the pool to wash off the heat and dust. They kept it open and heated even though our stay was during ultra-low season and there were very few other guests. Our room was very comfortable, with great beds. The only weakness lay in the restaurant, where the breakfasts were ok but the evening meal we tried was a bit disappointing. Having taken a disappointing trip to the Sumidero canyon, they fixed us up with a trusted taxi driver called Rafael and we organised our own day trip to Chiapa de Corzo - much better. I really recommend this hotel as a base in San Cristobal and for exploring the surrounding region.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel. Very close walking distance from the main square. The rooms were clean but bathroom was a bit too small. The owner MARIA helped and although she could not speak the language she chatted with google translation. Eric at the reception was very helpful with booking of private taxi for a day to El Chifflon. Diego speaks excellent English. The day we left there was a huge carnival and all the roads were blocked. Diego helped us to find a taxi. Maria has given a persona touch to the family run hotel with beautiful garden and pool. Everything is so well manicured and maintained. We could hear water gurgling at night which lulls you to peaceful sleep. It got very cold at night so when i requested a small heater they immediately provided one.

This hotel is beautiful and spotlessly clean. Decor is Mexican, very colourful, lots of gorgeous tile and hand painted borders. Bed was comfortable and they provided a little heater for the cold nights. We did not use the pool, but it too looked very clean, and there are many little areas to sit and relax around the property. The entire courtyard is full of lush greenery and I really can’t say enough about how lovely the place is. My only complaint would be the lack of in-room coffee, which I will expand on below. There is a cute little restaurant on site, but unfortunately the staff there is dishonest and rude. Coffee was 35 pesos and came in tiny cups (3 oz?) but they did not note on the menu that all refills are also 35 pesos. Lol. So we paid about 110 pesos for what amounted to a regular cup of coffee. Then when we went to pay, they had charged us for 2 orders of pancakes and bacon, yet we’d only had one. Hubs tied to explain to the woman taking payment and she argued, insisting he’d had two orders. Between us we had 6 tiny cups of coffee & one order of COLD pancakes with some crumbled bacon on top and the bill was over 500 pesos. She simply wouldn’t accept that he had one order of pancakes. My husband paid the bill in frustration and left a tip because that’s who he is. I attempted to explain the error to her but this angered her and she insisted TWO orders were served, treating me like I was trying to pull a fast one. When our Mexican guide arrived he explained the situation to the front desk. After much back and forth, the woman from the restaurant unceremoniously handed me 120 pesos. The “Extra” order of pancakes was charged at 170 pesos, and when we asked why only 120 was refunded she explained it was her tip! This despite him having given her a tip and never eating said pancakes. Eventually we got the 170 pesos back but no apology, and I got the feeling she was convinced she’d served us this phantom order of pancakes and was angry at us. Additionally, friends paid for their 420 peso breakfast with a 500 peso bill and received no change. They would have tipped despite the crappy service, so she didn’t say anything, but what nerve! So while I would recommend the hotel itself, provided you aren’t an early rising coffee drinker, I would strongly advise to stay clear of the restaurant. Overpriced, cold food & rude, dishonest staff.

“Great Location close to town squares”

Beautiful courtyard, heated sm pool, located just 10 min walking out of the hub of the main squares, so quiet. Showers are a little sketch. But owners are very accommodating and helped with airport shuttle and any request. Need your google translator!
