The Grand Plaza Hotel Marrakesh is a huge resort complex, meeting the highest hospitality standard. It is located right next to the Central Railway Station, with high speed train service to Tangier. However, the hotel is 15 mins by car to get to the Medina and Jemaa el-Fnaa. The room is of good size, adequately furnished with modern decor. It has a huge central court swimming pool, and provides convention facilities.

“Great 4 star option if finished with the medina and riads and want a change of location”

This was a welcome relief after staying in a riad for 3 nights. The Hotel was in a great location opposite the train station and in between the modern parts of the city Gueliz and Hivernage about a 10 min walk. This was a welcome relief after staying in a riad for 3 nights. The Hotel was in a great location opposite the train station and in between the modern parts of the city Gueliz and Hivernage about a 10 min walk. Room was bright and spacious with large walk in shower. TV with Disney, Netflix, You Tube. Decent food at the pool bar, Restaurant looked a bit small but during breakfast you could sit by the pool, with a decent spread of food, pancake, egg stations, fresh OJ. Lovely bar area in the evening. It is on a really busy road so pool facing rooms needed for light sleepers. It was too cold to swim in pool (March)

“Older Rooms, Nice Pool, but a Disappointing Checkout Experience”

This is a decent property with spacious rooms that are a little older, but perfectly fine for a night or two. The pool is very nice, and the restaurant menu offers some variety from what you typically find in the medina. The drinks, however, were expensive and, quite honestly, not very good. My main issue was with the staff. The check-in staff and bellman were friendly and courteous, but after that, things got a little strange. Our waiter at dinner seemed very rushed, even though he only had three tables. The food was delivered quickly, but the service felt hurried and awkward at times, such as when he would finish my sentences incorrectly just so he could move on. My biggest concern came at checkout. We checked out at 6:00 AM and had charged dinner and drinks to the room. I specifically asked whether I owed anything beyond the initial card swipe taken at check-in, and the desk clerk told me no and wished us well. As we were waiting for our Uber, another hotel employee ran out into the street frantically, brought us back inside, and rather rudely reprimanded us, essentially accusing us of trying to leave without paying the room charges. Apparently, this hotel does not automatically add room charges to the original form of payment. At first I thought this might be a local practice, but none of the other hotels we stayed at in Morocco handled it this way. Whether it is standard practice or not, I did not appreciate how the situation was handled.
