“A lovely oasis of calm”

The positives: it is a beautiful, peaceful place to stay with a comfy bed. The positives: it is a beautiful, peaceful place to stay with a comfy bed. Other reviewers have not been kind about the food, but as I love Moroccan food, I found it great - especially the lamb tagine and the Royal Couscous, and chicken pastilla. We also took a couple of excursions organised by the hotel, which were great. The guide spoke very good English and told me how to say "No thank you, I live here" in Arabic, which was very handy for the Souks. We also went to the Ourika Valley, which was a brilliant day out, and to ride camels. The negative was that for my 9 year old, the choice of meals in the evening wasn't great - he basically ate fillet steak or merguez every night.that it would not be a hotel for children any fussier than mine, or for children who find it hard to stay awake until around 10pm. The waiting staff do not seem to understand the fact that children need to go to bed ideally before 10pm, so every single night, we ended up being pretty much the last people to get our meals served. I did bring this up with Reception, and they suggested we popped by at 6.30pm - before Iftar (as it's currently Ramadan, so all hotel staff disappear off for nearly an hour to pray and break their fasts). However, when we did this, we were told we were too late to pre order, so had yet another night with a 10pm finish. So basically, it's not REALLY a family hotel, but is good for older children with more adventurous food tastes (if you plan to go half board as we did). Also the place is missing a trick, as it doesn't sell food by the pool all day - only until 3pm. it would be really nice to have snacky food available all day too - not everyone wants a massive meal. I think this is just a Morrocan thing, though, so we liked it for what it is and both my children have been so sad to be back that they keep asking when we can go back there - so obviously eating fillet steak and merguez and being the last to be served in the evenings wasn't such a terrible thing for them. Oh - also, the hotel "souk" is really good value and the guy who runs it can even run up a leather jacket for you in 48 hours. We didn't take him up on this, but would have done if we were in the market for a new leather jacket.
