Three of us stayed three nights at this large riad, which has a beautiful courtyard garden, & a superb grapefruit tree (we had these fresh every morning for breakfast). Latifa who manages the riad does a great job & her cooking is the best! It is a good 15 mins walk to the main square, which we found to be fine, and walking around the streets of taroudant in the warm evening nights was pleasant. It was hard to locate,and the owner was in France & we did not have a direct local number for the riad, this was not verbalised to us on booking. If you do not speak French this may be an issue, communicating with Latifa. We haggled on the price and what we paid was acceptable for what we received. The riad needs a little bit of love & maintenance, & then the price the owner is asking for would be reasonable. All in all ,we really enjoyed our stay. Taroudant is a fantastic place to visit and the surrounding valley.

Riad M’Haita is a very pretty, comfortable little riad, quiet and attractively decorated. It’s situated outside the walls of Taroudannt - although the website says it’s just a few minutes from the medina, this is probably travelling by car, as it actually takes a good 15 to 20 minute walking to reach the medina. Our room, Hammam, was on the first floor, opening onto the balcony that surrounds the lushly planted central courtyard, with its grapefruit tree, roses and climbing plants. The room was very pretty, with a large double bed, wardrobe, and a ceiling fan and air-conditioning unit. The connecting bathroom was large and tiled, with two basins, nice thick towels, and the shower and toilet enclosed in separate tiled areas. There was also a connecting hammam room which apparently you could book, but I’m not sure how that would work if you weren’t actually staying in the room we were in, as the only entrance was via our en suite bathroom! Outside there is a sun terrace on the roof, with two sun beds and a shaded area, and a further terrace on the first floor with deckchairs and two wicker loungers. Just inside there’s a lounge with a sofa, tv, a good selection of movies and some books. The stairs up/down are open on one side and quite steep, so I’m not sure they’d be too suitable for small children. Downstairs there is one large communal room with a dining table, sofas and a music player. There’s also a fireplace for the colder winter months. Just outside that room is a shaded area opening onto the courtyard, furnished with a tiled dining table and a corner with wicker armchairs, where you could relax with a glass of mint tea. Breakfast was served here and consisted of pancakes, followed by Moroccan bread with butter, jam and honey, plus tea/coffee/juice. We also ate one evening meal at the riad which we’d pre-booked at 14 euros per person: we had two stewed vegetable dishes to start with (one peppers and the other aubergines), served with bread. The main course was a lamb tajine with apricots, prunes and almonds, and dessert was a chocolate or vanilla milk pudding (a bit like blancmange … ). Whilst the food was tasty, there was no choice offered, and if you didn’t like it I’m not sure what you’d have done! Latifah , the housekeeper, was very helpful but only speaks Arabic and French.
