Situated at the heart of Christchurch city centre, The Distinction Christchurch Hotel provides for a convenient base from which to delve into exploration of all the city has to offer. Its location is prime for anything and everything - from shopping, to a ride on the tram, a glimpse of the well-known Christchurch Cathedral, or perhaps even a stroll through the Botanic Gardens. The Distinction Christchurch Hotel is only a stone’s throw from a seemingly endless list of attractions and “things to do”. The property itself is immediately neighbouring the Christchurch Cathedral, in the heart of Cathedral Square. It’s a reasonably large hotel, towering eleven floors from street level, and has practically everything required for an incredibly wonderful stay. From the hotel lobby to the room itself, the hotel exudes a high-end, classy vibe. From the moment the hotel room door opens, you know you’re in for a treat, and from there it only gets better! Attention to detail was clearly a priority during setup of this property. Everything oozes premium, high-end class and luxury - the remote controlled curtains, the expansive collection of complimentary teas, coffees and hot chocolates (and the added bonus of two small Whittaker’s chocolate treats), the lush and fragrant toiletries, the premium shower head and controls, dressing gowns and slippers and even a very limited range of minibar options. I found the bed to be extremely comfortable, and in the winter, the bedding to be perfectly adequate to provide that necessary warmth through the night, in addition to an easy to use and effective air conditioning system. One seemingly very minor thing which is important to me (perhaps abnormally so) is that the alarm clock display can be dimmed entirely of a night (surely I’m not the only one why has to unplug alarm clocks in hotel rooms due to lighting up the room like a rave club flooded with glow sticks…?). The hotel gym is well equipped, with a range of equipment to accommodate both cardio and strength gym goers alike. There were several pieces of cardio equipment, a sufficient provision of free weights and a cable machine / functional trainer. Towels and a cool water station is also made available. The one and only thing I could find any fault in was that my room service meal (a burger) was a little undercooked for my liking (I’m perhaps a little overcautious there), and I couldn’t enjoy it for that reason. The first bite was very nice though! It’s all in the detail, and The Distinction Christchurch Hotel has executed almost perfect attention to, and execution of it. It’s distinctively different, for all the right reasons. Now I just need to decide when I’m going back!

Our room was lovely! Lots of room with 2 comfy chairs and a table between to relax with your morning coffee or a glass of wine before dinner. Our room was lovely! Lots of room with 2 comfy chairs and a table between to relax with your morning coffee or a glass of wine before dinner. The beds are not too soft and not too firm, with nice crisp white sheets!! The room has lovely decor and was equipped with an iron, hairdryer, and fluffy towels! The desk staff were very welcoming every time we entered the Hotel. Breakfast was varied and had gluten free options. We had dinner in the restaurant. The meal was delicious and well presented on the plate. We had made a reservation for 6 pm, ordered a glass of wine and were told we needed to order our dinner “asap” as “there was a large group coming in”. Our meal was tasty, but we did feel rushed and maybe a bit not appreciated.
