Second attempt to stay and well worth it, we were given an upgrade to a suite with a spa so no complaints at all, owner of place incredibly nice person and very approachable, well appointed kitchenette and well located to everything, very very cold so electric blanket might’ve been a bonus but we did have heating, very uo to date and enjoyable, would stay again

“Karen made our stay special”

What makes this place special is Karen at the front desk. Without being asked, she gave us a map, highlighted the walks we should do, along with restaurant recommendations. What makes this place special is Karen at the front desk. Without being asked, she gave us a map, highlighted the walks we should do, along with restaurant recommendations. She was the only one who did this during our 19 night trip in South Island. We had the compact room so no eating space or microwave (used the communal one in the laundry room, which was fine), but the bathroom was spacious and there was plenty of counter space to put our things on in the main bedroom as well. The bed was comfortable. We would stay again and recommend highly

“A nice place for a night or two”

Easy to find, clean, motel. Our room had a small kitchenette area and basic utensils and cookware. Microwave, small refrigerator and a tea/coffee hot water pot were the appliances. Easy to find, clean, motel. Our room had a small kitchenette area and basic utensils and cookware. Microwave, small refrigerator and a tea/coffee hot water pot were the appliances. Good for warming stuff up or simple soups but not much more, which for us was perfectly fine. Bathroom was roomy with a nice enclosed shower stall. Bed was comfortable. the sleeping area was a little tight, but doable. We were on the second floor and sometimes could hear others either voices or toilets flushing, so the walls may not be highly efficient in soundproofing. There are not many places to stay in Fox Glacier, and this is centrally located to the few restaurants, general store, and a walking loop where there are glowworms. Host/Manager was very helpful with recommendations for things to do/see and places to eat. Good for night or two during a west coast trip. For more options for places to stay/eat, Franz Josef, about a 40 minute drive north, would be a better option.

Karen gave us a very warm welcome and lots of information about the area. The room was basic but exceptionally clean. The walls are quite thin and our sleep was disturbed both nights we stayed by the man next door snoring. We could also hear people upstairs using the toilet. I understand that this is the best and most expensive hotel in Fox Glacier and that the location is excellent. However, at this price point I expect glassess, plates even cutlery to match. It wouldn’t cost a fortune to provide better.
