Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood of the city is the Southern Star. Was on an official engagement and spent six nights at the facility. First time at the hotel and was not disappointed. Front Desk Staff was friendly and I was promptly checked into the room on arrival based on prior reservation.Directly facing the entrance foyer is the restaurant were buffet is served and the bar is situated to the left. Room experience was comfortable and clean; though the available cable TV viewing channels were limited. Meals at room service was nice; national dishes were a delight. Did not try out continental offerings. English breakfast was good. Laundry service delivered order same day. Wifi was available but signal strength was limited during stay. Great panoramic views at night from East Wing room of Hotel on 300 Level were I stayed. The hotel did not have a swimming pool facility. Gym was said to be undergoing setting up process. Free parking space is available. Shall go back when there is another opportunity.

“A new and very good hotel in Port Harcourt”

A very clean hotel with excellent facilities, friendly staff and very nice rooms, well equipped and with high standards. A good menu with both buffet, ala carte international and good local cuisine. Well located in a safe, close gated estate which is very safe. They have done an excellent job after only opening 4 months ago, and their prices are really good value for your money!! Jennifer the GM, goes out of her way to ensure you get the service you want. Some of their staff are fairly new and with more on-going training & coaching will do an even better job.

I stayed at Southern Star from 31st October to 2nd November 2013, and I must say that the experience was absoultely divine. I have stayed at a number of hotels in Nigeria, and Southern Star was an experience I would very much like to repeat. Jennifer the Manager, Chioma of the front desk, and all the other personnel were really courteous and willing to help. The high speed internet was impressive, and to crown it all, there was a radio in the room, which made it possible for me to listen to the news and enjoy Port Harcourt from my room. The price of the food is also very affordable, and the space which was available in the Executive room with 2 single beds could actually allow a 5-aside match. The only drawback is that children under 1 year are not allowed to stay in the hotel, and this gives the impression that new parents are not welcome in the hotel, something which obviously goes against the family values you expect hotels to promote. I also had limited options to choose from with respect to TV stations as I had access to only SS3, CNN, SoundCity, 2, and one or two other stations, thus making it impossible to watch live soccer matches. I didnt try to resolve this through the front desk though.

Spent a night here with my family, and though small in acreage, the external is inspiring. Checked at the counter and room rate was in the region of $100, but a quick check online gave same room at <$50. I paid online and checked in. Spent a night here with my family, and though small in acreage, the external is inspiring. Checked at the counter and room rate was in the region of $100, but a quick check online gave same room at <$50. I paid online and checked in. Room is nice, front desk is non-committal, room service prompt. But ther is a massive plumbing challenge that cause foul smel. Additionally, there is significant water on floor after bathing, possibly because the curtains do not seal properly. Beyond this, several TV stations to choose from, intermittent Internet access, quiet rooms. My window opened onto an abandoned building complex and nit a great sight. I will visit here again, and do recommend it at the room rate.
