Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a Rick Steves Scandanavian tour. We got an excellent room, overlooking a concrete courtyard. The room was quite large per European standards. The breakfast at the hotel was superb. While I didn't have dinner at the hotel, the feedback for dinner from fellow travelers was excellent. Hotel location couldn't be better!

Bergen Børs Hotel – Excellent Location, but the Rooms Need Modernization Overall Rating: 7/10 We stayed at Bergen Børs during our visit to Bergen. While the hotel has many appealing features, particularly its location and historic character, the guest rooms could benefit from significant updating. 📍 Location: 10/10 The location is outstanding. The hotel is situated next to the harbor, within easy walking distance of the port, Bryggen, shopping, and many of Bergen’s best restaurants. It is right in the heart of the tourist district yet remains surprisingly quiet. The hotel itself occupies an impressive historic building with soaring ceilings and elegant public spaces that evoke the atmosphere of a grand manor house. 🛏️ Room: 6/10 The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. The bathroom was a good size, but it lacked shelves or counter space for toiletries. The open shower design allowed water to spread across much of the bathroom floor. Although the hotel is very close to the harbor, only a limited number of rooms appear to have water views. Our room overlooked other rooms, so we kept the curtains closed for privacy. Storage was another disappointment. There was very little shelf or drawer space, and we ended up using the sofa to keep our daily clothing. The lighting was quite dim, and the room lacked USB charging ports and sufficient electrical outlets—features that most modern travelers now expect. 🤝 Service: 10/10 The staff were consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Check-in and check-out were efficient and pleasant. 🍽️ Breakfast: 8/10 The breakfast buffet offered an excellent variety and plenty of choices. Unfortunately, the hot dishes—including the scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, and baked beans—were only lukewarm, which detracted from an otherwise enjoyable breakfast. The breakfast room itself is beautiful, spacious, and features the same impressive high ceilings found throughout the building. 🏋️ Facilities: 10/10 The basement fitness center is excellent—clean, quiet, and well-equipped with treadmills, exercise bikes, weight machines, and free weights. 👍 Highlights • Outstanding central location • Beautiful historic building with elegant architecture • Friendly staff and an excellent fitness center 👎 What Could Be Improved • Modernize the hotel and guest rooms while preserving the hotel’s historic charm • Replace or refresh the carpeting • Add more shelves and counter space in the rooms and bathrooms • Improve lighting • Install USB charging ports and additional electrical outlets • Keep the hot breakfast items properly heated Would I Stay Again? Probably not. Would I Recommend It? Not until the rooms are modernized. Final Thoughts Bergen Børs is a beautiful historic hotel in one of the best locations in Bergen. Its elegant architecture, friendly staff, and excellent fitness center make a strong first impression. However, the guest rooms feel dated and lack several conveniences expected in a four-star hotel today. With thoughtful modernization, this could easily become an exceptional property. In its current state, it feels closer to a good 3½-star hotel than a true four-star experience.

I wish I could give the Bergen Bors more than 3 stars for its location and its excellent breakfast buffet but then there are the rooms themselves... This review pertains to the older part of the building although I was told by the desk clerk that the older rooms are actually nicer than the new. Who knows? Maybe he tells people in the new rooms that they are nicer than the rooms in the older part of this historic building. The bedding is fine. Comfortable bed, comfortable pillows, blackout shades. The room though is very narrow and it's hard to squeeze between the TV and the bed to get to the desk and other side of the bed. The lighting was terrible and inadequate. The bathroom is just not acceptable for more than a night. There is really no shelf space at all for placing any toiletries. The tissue box in the room was all but hidden under the sink where it barely fit between the small shelf that holds the towels and the plumbing for the sink. Towels of poor quality. Also of note is that the room doors in the older part of the hotel do not seem to lock on closing. We stayed in two different rooms during the trip and both of them had the same issue. We had to pull the door closed while also lifting up slightly in order to get the door to lock behind us. There is no excuse for this. And yes, we discussed with the front desk and were met with a mostly disinterested response. On the plus side the location couldn't be better. The harbor area is just steps away from the hotel entrance. Also a plus was the buffet breakfast. Wonderful selection of food and great nespresso machine for making cappucino, latte, expresso, and regular coffee.
