Excellent staff in all areas. Nice communal areas. Great breakfast with a huge choice, including gluten-free. We asked for a shower instead of bath so got a huge, accessible room which was beautifully decorated and furnished although lacked clothes storage for a longer stay. Really good location… more

Excellent staff in all areas. Nice communal areas. Great breakfast with a huge choice, including gluten-free. We asked for a shower instead of bath so got a huge, accessible room which was beautifully decorated and furnished although lacked clothes storage for a longer stay. Really good location close to everything and easy to walk to from the tram stop. The only negatives were a constant humming from the lifts and no fridge in the room.

This hotel could easily be so much better. The location is excellent, and on arrival the foyer was bright, stylish, and very welcoming — a really encouraging first impression. The receptionist greeted us with a smile and checked us in , but unfortunately that’s where the communication ended. We had to ask for directions to our room, and no additional information about the hotel or its facilities was offered. When we entered the room, we were quite underwhelmed. There was no main lighting — only a few lamps — so we initially struggled to see and had to move around in the dark to switch everything on. Even then, the room remained dim, which made us wonder if this was intentional to disguise tired furnishings. The bed setup was also disappointing: two single beds pushed together with separate duvets. While this may suit some, we would have preferred a proper king bed. As hotel owners ourselves, we always ask guests their preferred configuration where possible. Our son’s bed was also uncomfortable, with a very lumpy mattress, and poorly positioned — he even hit his head on the wall. The décor felt uninspired. The headboard is lovely, but the rest of the room lacks warmth and personality. Simple additions like artwork and soft furnishings in tones inspired by the surrounding architecture — rusts, mustards, and greens — would make a huge difference and show more care and attention. There was a quirky shaped nook without porthole window that could have been so cute with an arm chair and lighting. There were some positives: the sofa and table in the room were great additions. However, when we went to make tea, there was no milk. When we went to reception, we were told there was a tea and coffee station in the library — something that was never mentioned at check-in. Similarly, we later discovered that dinner was included in our stay, but again, no one informed us. The same applied to afternoon pastries and tea — a lovely touch, but completely missed due to lack of communication. Finally, there was no phone in the room to contact reception, which made things even less convenient. Overall, this hotel has great potential, but falls short due to poor communication and lack of attention to detail. With some small improvements, it could offer a much better guest experience.

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. We stayed for about four or five nights so we saw the good and the not so good. Our room which was very roomy, had a great view of the water and wharf but it was also quite noisy some nights with festivals happening. The building is lovely and historical and you can see from across the water it's really stunning. The check in was easy, the front desk staff are super helpful and nice. The room was large but I found it frustrating. No drawers or surfaces to store things. I found the bathroom super dated and though the shower had good pressure this was not the type of room I wanted to be in more than a night or two. A lot of those there were before or after they took a cruise so it always felt packed with dealing with getting all of those folks in and out. We did not use the free dinner once, as we ate in town and we used the bar to take wine to your room which was nice they were open. The TV was nice to watch some nordic shows. The breakfast is the standout. It's massive, diverse options and a real star of the hotel! The staff there are working super hard and I saw one staffer running a tourist group a couple of hours after breakfast, they are working multiple jobs some of them. The food options were delicious and beyond plentiful! It wasn't as lux a place as I hoped for in the room with very dated furniture, uncomfortable for multiple days and so dark to get dressed we had to ask for lights to be brought up. Just put them in the rooms? WTH? Upgrade the bathrooms! The location can't be beat, you can walk to the main sights in town and easily walk to the fish market. So if you care about location and ease of use more than an elevated hotel experience, then it's great. The staff were all so kind and ready to help out and give suggestions when asked and directions. The breakfast is oustanding and cannot be beat in the whole town I would imagine. They did try to put all the cruise guests at separate check in and outs but I think the fact it's popular with them and they are only staying a night may be why it's not as upgraded as it should be.
