“Stay here”

Fantastic hotel. Beautifully designed. The owner and entire staff were warm and welcoming. Perfect central location on Alesund. Highly recommend. Also, the hotel restaurant - Green Garden - was the best of the 4 restaurants we tried in town.

Located very near the centre we initially found it a little difficult to park to get our cases out, but having popped into reception I was directed to a car park behind the hotel. You'll need to use it if driving as street parking is nigh on impossible The hotel has an impressive foyer and reception, and there is a restaurant and lounge area running off it which are equally impressive with beautiful lighting The rooms are of a good size, not overly furnished but just what you need for a stay with a comfortable bed. In early July we went looking for a restaurant in the evening and found nearly everything was booked up, so if you're going to Alesund do some research and pre book your evening meal .... like we should have. Eventually we ended up in the hotel restaurant and although the menu was limited we had to trouble finding something to our taste. It was a good meal too, in nice surroundings

“Lovely room but noisy on the weekends”

I rented a Double Deluxe room which has a very comfortable bed and a beautiful bathroom. Love the bathtub and the nice rainshower as well as the Dyson hairdryer! I rented a Double Deluxe room which has a very comfortable bed and a beautiful bathroom. Love the bathtub and the nice rainshower as well as the Dyson hairdryer! The breakfast was good but was exactly the same every day. There is a separate coffee area with a barista who makes coffee to order for free with your breakfast. We loved this but then found out this coffee area is closed on Sundays when it is not peak season and the only coffee available with the buffet was drip coffee in a carafe. We stayed for 5 nights and the area was very quiet the first 3 weeknights. But then on Friday and Saturday nights, there was a lot of loud street noise that went on until after midnight and it got hot in the room since we had to close the windows. Even then, noise kept us awake.

Hotel 1904 is centrally located and externally has some nice art nouveau touches. Inside it’s been renovated in a fairly typical and tasteful Scandic design. The breakfasts were good and it also has a nice coffee bar. All staff were friendly and helpful. There were some downsides…no aircon so on a hot day that’s not great and this seems typical of Norwegian hotels…they’re built for cold days. The rooms have minimal storage so if you’re staying more than a couple of days you’ll be using your suitcase as storage. The bathrooms have a weird wet room set up with glass screens that don’t reach the floor so more of the floor gets wet than needs to. Also the road outside can be noisy…on more than one occasion very loud cars drove past blasting music out, some seemed to be doing circuits. A particular old US station wagon was especially bad!!
