Having read some reviews from February just before our visit, I will admit I was concerned pre-arrival. I didn’t need to be. Hotel is fantastic for kids and ski in/out is convenient and well organised. I love my food and, as a general rule, dislike buffet style eating. The buffet was fantastic (for buffet food). Of course it is not and never could be true gourmet/michelin level but quality was excellent, variety plentiful and all needs were largely catered for (I didn’t see many Vegan options but I wasn’t looking either). Breakfast buffet was great to load up energy pre-skiing. Pool, although busy at times, was great fun for the kids. The climbing wall into the pool is genius. What I would say is, this is a genuine family hotel and set up as such. If you want quiet relaxation by a pool and gourmet meal every night, look elsewhere. If you have a family and want a great value, high quality skiing experience, do not hesitate. Not relevant to hotel but as an FYi, Trisyl is a beginners to intermediate skier resort. If you are advanced and want to be challenged, this is not the place.

There are many many positives to this hotel. The location is fantastic. Trysil is a great resort for families and this hotel is perfect for being able to literally ski in and out of the ski locker room, straight on to a green run, down to a number of button lifts, which take you up to a variety of different lifts to explore the rest of the mountain. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The reception/bar area are very welcoming and cosy, with a fire table to set the one. We had a family room which was spacious and plenty of space for 2 adults and 2 children. There was a double bedroom (the bed was more like a superking, perhaps a bit smaller). The lounge area had a small double sofabed, and a single pull down bed, which was very comfy. There was a fridge and kettle in the room. The supermarket just across the road had milk so we were able to make teas in the room. The bathroom only had a shower, no bath. Our balcony overlooked the slopes and button lift. We took the half board option. Breakfast was as you would expect. Hot and cold options. Dinner had good options for meat eaters, however as a vegetarian, I felt that I was left with the side options. Most nights, the only options were the vegetable sides to whatever the meat dish was, apart from the Mexican themed night where there was a bean chilli. There was no thought gone in to a protein option of any kind for vegetarians. On the drive to Trysil, we stopped at a Mcdonalds where there were at least 5 different kinds of vegetarian burger. I thought that that was a good sign that Norway had vegetarians sussed, but it seems that this has not yet reached this hotel. I feel a bit cheated that I had paid the same price as a meat eater when all I could eat was the vegetable side options each night. I did ask the chef on a few occasions if there were any other vegetarian options, but he said no and directed me to the vegetables. There was often a lack of food suitable for fussy children (like mine). There was plain pasta available each night but it seemed to be coated in some kind of oil which put the kids off a bit (and with no pasta sauce available at all which seemed strange). There were chips 2 nights out of the 7 were there. The bowling and pool areas were great. The climbing wall in the pool was a hit! The pool is fairly chilly though. The bowling cost around £30 for one hour which we felt was reasonable. For 6 people, we managed a full game in that time. There is a small children's playroom near the restaurant, with a TV, soft play cubes, bean bags etc, and is visible from some of the tables in the restaurant. The ski room is well planned. Each hotel room is assigned a ski locker, which is opened with a room key. It fits 4 pairs of boots, and we had 2 adult skis and 2 children's skis in it. In the hotel room, there is also a genius wardrobe that has a small heater in, perfect for hanging damp ski gear at the end of the day! Overall, we were really impressed with the hotel, just hope that they improve their options for vegetarians in the future.

“Good aspects, but tired”

The hotel is in a great location with regards to skiing. A short button lift up to where you meet the ski instructor’s and the amenities. The hotel is in a great location with regards to skiing. A short button lift up to where you meet the ski instructor’s and the amenities. We had a suite on the top floor with a kitchen so can’t comment on breakfast. We did go for pizza one night, which was great. The pool is a plus. Not too big, but enough for kids to spend an hour in on most days. We had a great time bowling too. Our apartment was lovely, overlooking the slopes, but is in need of renovation. Small things like: Tiles missing from shower cubicle, bedroom tv not working, B&O cinema sound speakers out of order, gas fire unusable, large electric blind falling down, broken dishwasher draw. Also, the Wave Rider (next to the pool) is still broken. I think if Radisson invests a significant amount in this hotel over the next year, it would become a great hotel.
