“Authentic jungle experience…tons of wildlife!”

Visiting during shoulder season, we were lucky enough to be the only two guests at the lodge for 2 of our 3 nights. Keep in mind that they can accommodate up to 26, and I imagine our experience would have been different with that many people. Also, we had some rain but mostly nice weather for our t… more

“Peaceful and cozy”

Lovely ecolodge, it is run by a local family and all the employees are from the area. The have really good cabins, and the food is amazing 😍 We loved so much being there, such a peaceful time of our lives. During the rainy season (we went in January) sometimes can rain A LOT but it's warm, so yo… more

“Relaxing ecolodge experience to see all the sights the Amazon has to offer!!”

We had a great 5 days relaxing in the jungle. We did some amazing tours including the Chunchow Clay lick, a must to do to see 4 different types of macaws and capybaras on the boat, the canopy walkway offering different views of the jungle, piranha fishing which was lots of fun, sunset tour, Sandova… more

“Experiencing the Amazon on Hacienda Herrera”

We stayed in Hacienda Herrera for 3 days in Oct 2025. The resort is a wonderful place to experience the Amazon in all aspects. The resort is located on a wide river, with lush greenery and many native flowers. The cabins are all nicely designed and fit well within the environment. The food is good… more

  • Guests at Hacienda Tambopata say: Visiting during shoulder season, we were lucky enough to be the only two guests at the lodge for 2 of our 3 nights. Keep in mind that they can accommodate up to 26, and I imagine our experience would have been different with that many people. Also, we had some rain but mostly nice weather for our tours. The cabin was quite comfortable, and if you don’t have hot water, just ask Rogelio, the host. Yes, we had a couple of bugs, it is the jungle, but the screens kept most of them out and let air in. Combined with the fan, sleeping with the sounds of nature was nice. Our tour guide, Jenfre, truly made our experience special. We did the farm tour the first afternoon and 3 tours each of the following two days. We started early but would be back for lunch and a siesta before our afternoon tours. The best two for us based on the wildlife were Lake Sandoval (3 species of monkeys, cayman, birds, etc) and piraña fishing…even if you don’t fish, go for the hundreds of parrots and a beautiful sunset! The sunset tour was a close third as we saw sloths and capybaras. Jenfre grew up in Puerto Maldonado and is a wealth of knowledge. You can tell he loves his job and having him as our private guide was awesome! Meals were plentiful with a lot of local flavor. Plenty of vegetarian options. Kitchen staff were all lovely. Overall, I highly recommend this resort, which is owned and operated by a local couple, Kenny & Ruth Herrera. He personally took us from/to the airport too. Great value for everything you will experience during your jungle stay.
