SNAPSHOT: A very good value-for- money hotel located relatively close to Osmena Fuentes Circle. While more spacious than your average budget hotel, rooms are by no means large, but are very clean, comfortable, bright and air-conditioned. Bathroom has good on-demand hot shower with basic toiletries. Room wifi is mostly strong. Reception staff are helpful and friendly. This hotel offers convenience to plenty of food outlets, banking and other services along North Escario. A Robinsons Easymart is available right across the road. We recommend this budget style hotel overall especially if you can score a super cheap room rate. BE AWARE: From opinions by other reviewers, it looks like the accommodation experience you will have depends on which room type you book and its location within the hotel. We have only stayed in a Deluxe Double windowed room in the centre of the hotel. The main road is a super busy one, but our room was mostly insulated from external noise. Food or drinks requiring refrigeration can be stored (ask at reception) since there is no room fridge. No in-room coffee/tea/hot water facility available, but filtered cold water dispenser in corridor. Reception staff are very helpful if you need other basic stuff like scissors, bottle opener etc. Payments must be in cash - no cards accepted. Cash deposit (PHP1,000) required upon check-in. Any stains on bedding etc incur a penalty of PHP500 minimum. Housekeeping gets a high rating, but you need to request them. The Maxwell Hotel is no longer affiliated with OYO hotel chain - we are unsure of what's behind the split. CRITIQUE: We stayed for 3 nights, but could have stayed longer since the room met our needs nicely. Sure the hotel is becoming a little dated overall, but our room had been recently painted and the black-out curtains replaced. Wall unit A/C was noisier than usual, but did not affect us. Can get super chilly, so needs adjustment by maintenance. QB was comfortable with clean sheets and extra pillow provided. No mini-fridge or safety box. Wardrobe and cable TV comes with basic choices. No in-room cooking facilities. All rooms are without breakfast. Long desk/table with chair situated under TV and wall mirror. No gym or pool in this hotel. Hotel rooms go up to 4th floor only and are connected by one elevator. Lobby has seating, but no guest PC available. There is a large luggage scale machine beside reception desk - very helpful! ADVICE: Research room types before booking. We scored well - hope you do too. Lechon Baboy shop operates from hotel ground floor. The seasoned pork belly is very good - do try the atchara pickle too! BEYOND THE HOTEL: The new Robinson Easymart across the street is excellent for groceries and the like. A Mr. DIY is opening adjacent very soon. Starbucks, other cafes and fast food outlets are all handy as well, BUT be very careful in crossing what is an incredibly busy and potentially dangerous main road. The LEX hotel close by offers a very good buffet breakfast at PHP620 for adults and PHP 340 for kids - one of the best buffet breakfasts around in our experience. It use to be even better, but was more expensive at PHP800. SHOUT-OUTS: Hotel reservation staff (Jessica) were particularly helpful with our re-booking especially since the OYO group cancelled our bookings when they split from the hotel (yet to be fair they did so in advance of our stay date). Our check-in and check-out went smoothly.

The place is a good place to stay for business. The room and bathroom are generally clean. The AC is a small 0.75 hp air conditioner which takes some time to cool the room adequately, though the air conditioner is directly in front of the AC so it can get cold in the night. The blanket is a comforter type so it is comfortable. The water in the bathroom uses ground water (hard water) so soap and shampoo don’t lather much The cable TV list is not updated so the actual channels are not the same as the list. Since it is a business trip, I am not around during the day. But Escario is a very busy street, so I imagine it is noisy even in the room. But because I usually return to the hotel after dinner, I can still hear sounds of traffic outside though it is not so loud. By the time I get to sleep at about 10 pm, the streets are no longer so busy and can get empty at the wee hours of the morning. A lot of places to eat near the hotel though many restaurants are across the very busy street. I suggest you use the pedestrian crossing at nearby Juana Osmeña Street to safely cross Escario. Generally, it is a very good stay.

“It was Okay”

Our room’s bathroom isn’t as good as the entire room. But it’s clean. We arrived there the flush wasn’t working. Immediately called them and they fixed it right away. The wifi connection is fast though.
