Garamond, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Krakow Old Town

We stayed 3 nights. Great hotel. All the staff have a kind and friendly attitude, especially the General Manager Mrs Ewa Mazurkiewicz. Clean rooms, good restaurant. Thanks for all. Kind regards.

This hotel renovated an old newspaper building and carried that theme throughout the hotel public areas and restaurant. It was located on the edge of the old town by the Planty and less than 15 minutes walk from Krakow Glowny and Galleria. My room was on the 5th floor, spacious and even had two large skylights. The skylights were a nice feature but not fully soundproof as I did occasionally hear the trams passing by or sirens from emergency vehicles. Breakfast was tasty with a variety of small dish items in their buffet and a short list of hot items from the kitchen. The smoked mackerel was my favorite from the buffet and the salmon Benedict was the best from the kitchen. Staff were welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. A good Marriott option when visiting old town Krakow and I'd stay here again if I get the chance to come back.

This was an unexpected last minute trip to Krakow on my way back from a humanitarian trip to xxxxxxx -the last time I was in Krakow was over 10 years ago. I was pleasantly impressed how everything was so improved -especially the hospitality industry. I chose the Garamond as I wanted something smaller in the old town -the choice of establishments was pretty wide ranging and it was not an easy decision. By the nature of the building the room categories are limited but the sizes are decent, mine was 22m2? It's part of the Marriott Group and it's a tastefully converted house with 53 spacious rooms in an art deco style and a recognition to a previous owner, press magnate Marian Dabrowski -there is memorabilia to reflect this including a "wall" of typewriters and the name Garamond is a group of serif fonts. It's also an adults only establishment which was an added plus for me. Overall my stay was enjoyable and a big shout out to Ewa (GM) and her friendly staff (Pawel & "Adam" in reception) who provided a warm welcome and ongoing assistance. The Kuryer restaurant (in the basement) serves buffet breakfasts and evening meals. Ewa came to say hallo during breakfast and we ended up having a pleasant chat as it turned out she had studied in England. One surprising thing was a presentation of breakfast items on a plate stand brought to all tables: meats, cheeses, fruit and small bite sized cakes -refer to my pictures for a better idea -I had never seen before and it was in addition to the ala carte menu. Niggles: Hairdryer in the room had a folding handle, could not work out how to stop it folding whilst using it Tea & coffee making facilities -I always see this as a positive in a hotel room but would prefer to have liquid milk as opposed to powdered creamer. All in all a very good characterful functional hotel in a great location walking distance to the main square and also the railway station.
