The Pousada Convento de Vila Viçosa, located in the region of Alto Alentejo, is located close to the historical centre of Vila Viçosa and is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Situated between Elvas, Borba and Redondo, Vila Viçosa is a quaint village, rich with history. The Pousada is located in the former Convent of the Chagas de Cristo, built on the orders of Jaime IV, Duke of Bragança, in the 16th century.
Alentejana cuisine and convent sweets are the hallmark experience of those who take their meals at the restaurant located in the former convent refectory, overlooking the courtyard. In the summer, you can enjoy a meal or a drink in the Cloisters, surrounded by frescos from the 16th century. In your free time enjoy the comfort of the drawing room or have fun in our games room.

“Beautiful accommodation in old convent building”
Beautifully furnished in rustic style befitting the old convent building, with good quality heavy fabrics. Our room 105 had a large double bed in a sunken area with ensuite and mezzanine above. “The warmest welcome you can expect.”
A nice place to stay at a nice town to visit. The warmest welcome you can expect. The hotel would benefit from some small refurbishments but the gentle and professional staff overcomes that. Very good value for money.

“Wonderful”
Lovely old hotel that we found ourselves getting lost in.We ate as a large group of cyclists in the restaurant and all really enjoyed our meals.Pool environment was very relaxing Only slightly negative comment was shower water not very hot.

“Cool days!”
The hotel is very good! The staff are all friendly and attentive. Everything was fine, nothing to complain about. Less than 500m from the hotel there are good restaurants. We will be back one day for sure.

“Nice place but awful restaurant ”
Really nice suite. The main cons were the terrible restaurant and the air-conditioning not working in one of the rooms. The water on the pool was cloudy and dirty. The pousada itself was a beautiful building, however in the need of some care.
