This hotels location is really good. It's in walking distance of a lot of cool sights, close to the metro station. And close to the railway station. The rooms are perfect for a weekendtrip. And super clean! The breakfast buffet has a lot of options. And the hotel staff is friendly and are at the front desk 24 hours a day. In other reviews, I saw a lot of people who were a bit scared of the surrounding area. I think this is mostly the case surrounding the exit of the metro. There are a lot of people hanging around here. But they stick to themselves and won't talk to you. So we didn't feel unsafe here and even came back to the hotel after dark without any issues. If you feel unsafe, you can also apporach the hotel from the north east, that road has a lot less people.

The positives first. The rooms are clean (I stayed in 2 different rooms). Daily maid service is nice. The hotel seems quiet (small boutique-type hotel in a neighborhood). The breakfast is good, adequate, and the attendants are nice. Desk staff are nice but could be better at resolving issues (see comments). The average or negatives. This is a neighborhood that is pretty scary at times. I had no problems but there are some rough characters in the narrow streets. I literally saw drug dealers, drug deals, and their strung-out customers. However, I didn't really feel threatened by them. I felt that several places throughout Lisbon though. Rough looking people in some areas but I didn't feel threatened by them, not aggressive at all. The streets are filthy and have a lot of trash. I did see a couple of homeless people (women actually) that were obviously spending the night on the street (a little "nest" on the sidewalk to the Metro station). I did have one continuous issue during my stay. The air conditioning was not working properly. Actually, was the control panel with a malfunction. I had to talk to the desk clerk every day and multiple times they had to adjust the A/C from the master control panel. I was told it was going to be fixed and it never was. I finally went during the day and spoke to the manager. He was nice, apologetic, and resolved the issue by moving me to another room (on my LAST night). There would have been less of heated conversation had the desk clerk communicated with me, reported my dissatisfaction earlier, explained what they were trying to do with the repair company, etc. Final comment, the manager and day clerk fixed the problem to my satisfaction. Everything was very good to excellent except for that day's long A/C issue and the neighborhood. Do your homework. Can you manage the few negatives for an otherwise "nice" hotel?
