“Great residence in the nature!”

Visiting Paco de S. Cipriano was a great experience in all ways possible. To be honest driving from Braga to Guimares and then further on to the estate we with my wife were very, very nervous about the location and nature surrounding this estate - all the portugal is pretty crowded in these parts with lost of factories and apartment houses everywhere, so we were worried to have such a view from the room as well. When we arrived it was a totally different world - first the gate to the estate open automatically (and it is a big estate) and then when you reach the inner gates you forget all about the industrialization and ugly views - you are in tranquil place with nicely decorated rooms, beautiful views and walkways. We spent two nights there and one day basically was just wandering around and sitting by the pool side (BTW: they do not mention pool on the internet site, but they have one and it is very beautiful- pictures to follow), but it might be only for internal use. They have left us use it without problem and even served us with free lemonade ;) Additionally the hospitality in this place is excelent - they really try to make you feel welcome! Great stuff!

We stayed at paco di S.Cipriano in early August: the house is located in a nice and green countryside and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The house dates back to the 16th Century and we appreciated very much the charm of it (main house in granit stone, tower, ancient court with fontain, family chapel nearby). We asked for the room in the tower which is large, very comfortable and with pieces of antique furniture and a stunning balcony; we would recommend to ask for the same room to Ana Isabel, the owner. Also the owners are very welcoming, very keen to giving you explanations on the house, its history and architecture, visits to the gardens and chapel and tips on restaurants and places to visits. They contribute much to the charm and relaxation of the stay.

“A place of great peace and tranquillity”

In the Casa Antigas (Manor & Stately Homes) category of the Solares de Portugal, Paco de Sao Cipriano is situated a few miles outside the city of Guimaraes. The directions provided enabled us to find it without difficulty. We stayed for two nights. From the main road, an electronically operated gate leads up a 200 metre track to the main entrance, where a further key-coded automatic gate allows access to the hotel. An old family home, it is tastefully and sympathetically presented, with a recent installation of central heating. We were warmly welcomed and given a choice of rooms, all attractively decorated with stylish furnishings including a four-poster bed. After our long drive, we asked to eat at the hotel that evening. However when we went downstairs, there was - no doubt due to a misunderstanding, or communication breakdown - no sign of life. Instead we drove to neighbouring Polvoreira and the lively Cafe Rio which the housekeeper had recommended on arrival. Although it was a Friday and the restaurant was busy, we were quickly seated and had a pleasant and reasonably priced dinner. A perfectly adequate breakfast is included in the price and served in the hotel's main dining area. Sao Cipriano also provides some attractive public spaces including an outside balcony, an old chapel, and a library / games room with comfortable seating and a log fire. There are local walks, and the location is convenient for visiting the sights of Guimaraes and Braga. We left on a Sunday morning with church bells tolling across the adjacent farmland. The overall impression was of a place of great peace and tranquillity.
