I spent 3 nights here and have just got home. Firstly, the location of the hotel is amazing. You are right in the heart of Porto! Trindade station is 5 minutes walk away up the hill and Sao Bento station is 5 minutes walk down the hill. You are right between both main stations with a metro station right outside the door. In my opinion, this is not a modern hotel with modern technology. It's a low cost hotel that offered everything I needed for my stay within my budget. I have stayed in all sorts of hotels before. My reviews are always honest and fair as I would hate to mislead anyone. I stayed in room 205. It has a working lift, hot shower with decent water pressure. Decent pillows. The ones in the bed were fluffy, but there were flatter pillows in the wardrobe, along side a clean blanket for extra warmth. There is a fan if the room gets too hot. Plug sockets beside the bed. The lady that checked me in and out of the hotel was lovely. In fact, when i gt to reception she greeted me by my name. Which i was surprised at. Very happy and efficient lady with a friendly smile and nature. She was so helpful, with my bag in the lift and making sure i was okay. Unfortunately, I don't know much Portuguese, but with some vague signs and gestures, we understood eachother. I also spoke with a young man at reception and he helped answer some questions I had, with no problems. I didn't have breakfast here as included. The reason being is I wanted to try local places and don't have much of an appetite in the mornings. I had a balcony, overlooking the back of the hotel which allowed me fresh air into the room. It looked onto other buildings, so I didn't use it. There were black out curtains which stopped the light getting in and kept the room dark. It is an older style hotel, and probably could do with updating at some point. It has an old wooden lift that worked fine and stairs if preferred. The room i had probably was on the smaller side for two people. But this is not a big hotel, so considering the size of it, it is understandable. Two peope could manage fine as long as you don't aim to spend alot of time in the room. If you are using it as a place to wash and sleep, it's ideal. My room was spotless. Not dirty or filthy. I was aprrehensive at first, based kn other reviews, but it was very clean indeed. The staff came in each day and made the bed, changed towels, emptied the bin and stocked up on toilet roll. There was even body was and soap provided by the hotel. I could see a few signs of wear and tear, but I've seen that in fancier hotels. Bear in mind this is an old hotel with some original features. Keys to the room are physical keys and not key cards. My key double locked my door, which as a solo traveller made me feel very safe. On that note, as you are on one of the main roads, safety was not an issue for me, especially returning later at night. As it is a smaller hotel and the rooms are close together you may hear some noise as people come and go but on the hotel it was a very quiet hotel. I slept fine and I am a very light sleeper. The free WIFI was fine, it worked each time I was in the hotel. On the last day, I was able to leave my bag at reception after check out. They don't have a luggage room as such but my bag was placed behind the desk with staff. Although if this does not suit, there is luggage storage throughout Porto. I've read the previous reviews and can appreciate I only saw 1 room out of many. However, if you are looking for a luxury modern hotel to spend your time in, this is not the hotel for you. Especially if you are used to 4/5* hotels. This hotel offers a low cost, budget friendly room, with a hot shower, a place to keep your belongings safe and a bed to sleep in whilst in the heart of one of the most beautiful cities I have been to. I have given it 4* as the location could not have been better, that was the main factor of me choosing Hotel Chique. The staff were amazing and helpful, despite my lack of their language. The room was clean and safe. It had the basics and everything I needed for my short time there. I want to see the as much of the world as I can. I'd rather spend what money i do have on excursions, museums and exploring, rather than expensive hotels. So, if that means sleeping in a low star hotel and saving a fortune, I'd happily do that everytime and be able to travel more. And let's face it......Porto is too pretty to be spent in a hotel room anyways! Hope this helps!

“Great Porto”

Old fashion hotel with spacious rooms and bathrooms and lift from ground floor. View to the big noisy square. City of great attractions, restaurants and places worth to see. We recommend this hotel to everyone. We will visit Porto again.
