We just spend some days of your honeymoon on Porta Azul in Porto and it was amazing. Fresh breakfast every morning, attention of the staff and cleaness of the rooms. The garden on the back of the house is a small paradise. We just love our days at Porta Azul and we will coming back for sure!

“Disappointing”

This place was disappointing - we don’t understand all the rave reviews. It was hard to find. The location was just OK, and there was nothing around in the way of shops for snacks or drinks. This place was disappointing - we don’t understand all the rave reviews. It was hard to find. The location was just OK, and there was nothing around in the way of shops for snacks or drinks. There was no air conditioning so we had to contend with street noise, even with the windows closed. The lobby was tiny and very dark. We had a very large room (billed as a junior suite), but it had dim lights making it almost impossible to read. It was clean. The bathroom was weird - carved out of the room, and not well. It was kind of like a plywood box plunked down in a corner of the room. Cleaning was done every other day - wish we’d known that ahead of time. But even then - they only brought 1 new bath towel and 1 new hand towel - for 2 of us - and the bath mat wasn’t ever replaced. And the towels never completely dried. It was pretty spare - nothing in the way of decor. It seemed like it had been furnished by IKEA and there was nothing on the walls. The staff was nice, but still in training, so not as knowledgeable as they could have been. The owner was nowhere in evidence. Breakfast was average at best - stale breads, icky OJ (more like watered down Tang). The keys were a major problem. They were supposedly high tech, but they didn’t work well at all. The honor bar had a sign saying wine was available from €7 - €21, but there was nothing available for less than €15. There was a pretty garden out back, but we never got to use it due to rain. Overall, we thought this property was overpriced and overrated and we’d look for somewhere else on a return visit.

Downsides: the facility is completely charmless, with few amenities except the garden. There is no common room, and no staff on site overnight. Everything was clean, and breakfast was adequate.
