We booked Porto Palacio as part of our package holiday, and we had a really lovely week here! I did my research so I was aware that the hotel isn't right in the centre of Porto and is in the Boavista area, and that was fine for us - Uber is very reasonable in Porto so it's very easy to get around. There's a handy Pingo Doce supermarket basically next door which was really good to have. The room was lovely, spacious and clean, bed very comfortable indeed. Yes there are a few marks on the carpet but if you choose light coloured carpets with lots of visitors, that will happen over time. Loved that the bathroom was separate from the toilet and that there was a separate sink and bidet in the toilet room. Twin sinks with plenty of space. The view we had wasn't amazing (6th floor), it just overlooked the front of the hotel and the main road. Windows could have done with a bit of a clean. Minibar in the room as well which was handy. House keeping were generally very efficient and friendly with replacing towels, toilet paper etc and emptying the trash, although sometimes a little inconsistent with making the bed (sometimes the corners were turned down and there were little chocolates left, sometimes there weren't). Reception staff greeted us and were very friendly and helpful despite us arriving very late due to our flight being late. They also let us store our luggage securely on our last day as our flight wasn't until 9pm. The 24/7 bar was handy although most of the staff members were a bit surly and the service was slow. They do also do the room service so I think there's not enough of them to cover it all but they could be a bit friendlier! They were showing the world cup matches but had the volume down really low so the vibe was a bit awkward. We weren't expecting rowdy or sports bar vibes but just a bit of volume to create atmosphere would have been better! I suppose it is ultimately a business hotel really so maybe that's why. Breakfast buffet is really good, staff friendly with a great selection of hot food; scrambled and fried eggs, bacon (more like American bacon but still really nice), sausages are not good and look anemic, I don't think I saw a single person choose them the entire week, tomatoes, beans, toast, lots of cold cuts and cheeses, cereals, yogurts, fruit, and some little mini pastries. There's also a separate toaster and area for gluten free bread, and all nuts are on a separate area and table to the main buffet which I hugely appreciated because I have a severe nut allergy. Allergens are labelled well on everything. A few juices available and even sparkling wine, though we didn't partake! Staff members will come and either pour you a coffee or make you a different one separately e.g. cappuccino, decaf etc. The buffet was always well organised and stocked even when very busy. We never had to wait long. The pool is just okay. A bit dated and grubby looking and could do with some sprucing up but it's fine for a swim. The showers in the ladies changing room were not very nice and grubby and had a bit of a funky public toilet type smell. The compulsory swim cap rule is a bit weird as well and have never experienced that in a hotel before, I'd read online about it in advance thankfully so brought our own but definitely a strange rule. The rooftop bar on the 19th floor is absolutely lovely, fantastic views over Porto and the sea with a terrace. We were given a token for a Porto Tonico complimentary welcome drink on arrival too which were delicious, very relaxing vibe up there. It was a great place for us to wait on our last day for our late flight home. The only other gripe we had was that the TV in the room was locked into this hospitality mode that you couldn't get out of. I think in this day and age, a smart TV would be more appropriate. Overall we had a really great stay at Porto Palacio and we would definitely consider staying again if we return to Porto!

The rooftop bar and spa are lovely though and the staff are first class. Could easily be so much better if they spent some money on upgrading the bathrooms and beds.
