I can only re-iterate the comments made by Phil Kempster about this wonderful hotel but must mention Agostinos singing. He sings frequently in the local church but you can also hear him singing in the hotel reception, normally when there are new arrivals, a truly lovely touch. All four of us were invited to dine at the family restaurant named, I believe Blue, in the Maia district, please visit this place, wonderful food and service. To make it even better, Juan ran us there and Agostino picked us up and ran us back to the hotel, nothing is too much for this father and son combination

“Good Value for your Money”

We stayed at Residencia Lis B&B at the end of December 2019 for three nights. Our first impression was not very good. We arrived at about 2 PM and rang the bell but no one answered. We stayed at Residencia Lis B&B at the end of December 2019 for three nights. Our first impression was not very good. We arrived at about 2 PM and rang the bell but no one answered. So, we waited outside on a bench for about 15-20 minutes ringing the bell ocassionally. Finally, a harried maid came running to the door and tried to explain but she could not speak any English. She took us to our room with twin beds. We tried to explain that we requested a double bed. She tried to call and explain but we gave up and said OK. Next day we met the owner who speaks very good English and is a very nice host. He apologized for our inconvenience. He gave us a gift of very nice Porto 12-year old wine bottle. I am giving it a 4-star only because of our initial encounter and the fact that it is an uphill walk back from city center. We walked easily in the morning but took a taxi back. Pros: Clean, cheap place with some eating places nearby, quiet. Cons: About 10-15 min walk to city center uphill, very basic breakfast. I would still like to recommend this place if you would like a quiet night sleep and save money.

The Residencia Lis was conveniently located to the meeting location, a comfortable walk away at the i3S institute, yet still in walking distance from the old town (and with more time) the riverside; and it was modestly priced, unlike most other hotels in Porto at the time. It's located in a pretty non-touristic part of Porto, which I quite enjoyed. The room was on the small side but still ok and clean, just a bit noisy, out to the main street. The bathroom was functional and clean, but the ceiling above the shower pretty mouldy. The breakfast was basic, with simple choice of coffee, tea, bread, jam, cheese; the selection was perfectly fine for me, the quality decent but not great. There were also some organisational complications at checkout, people were friendly and motivated, but struggled to solve them. The place is ok on a tight budget, value for money is still ok, but I wouldn't go back in a hurry.
