From the moment you arrive at Raffles Sentosa, the first impression is one of order, quality, cleanliness and style. Most importantly, you immediately feel welcomed, cared for and somehow be at home. The hotel has a very intimate atmosphere, starting with the relatively small but beautifully designed and extremely well-maintained lobby. The welcome was excellent, and the entire property immediately gives you the feeling of being somewhere completely removed from the outside world. Surrounded by lush tropical greenery, it is hard to believe that you are only a few minutes from the centre of Singapore. The setting is truly remarkable and makes the hotel feel more like a secluded tropical island retreat than a city hotel. The property itself feels very new, and it is clear that great attention has been paid to every detail. The buildings, gardens and common areas are all exceptionally well maintained and finished to a very high standard. During check-in, we were also very pleasantly surprised with an upgrade to a higher-category villa, which was greatly appreciated. Our Presidential Villa was simply beautiful: extremely spacious, with a large private swimming pool, a wonderful outdoor area and very generous interiors. The rooms were bright, immaculate and beautifully designed, with high ceilings, large glass windows opening onto the surrounding greenery and a very elegant selection of furniture, accessories and decorative objects. Overall, it was genuinely one of the most beautiful villas I have ever stayed in. The combination of space, design, privacy and the tropical surroundings made the experience truly special. The service throughout the hotel was generally very good. Everyone we encountered was extremely friendly, warm, pleasant and approachable. However, if I have to be precise, I would say that the service was not always as attentive as one would expect at this level. Here and there, whether at the restaurants, with in-room dining or with other requests, there were occasions when details were missed or follow-up was not quite as precise as it could have been. These were not major issues, but they do represent an area where there is room for improvement. The butler service via WhatsApp was also a very positive feature. The butlers were consistently kind, courteous and genuinely willing to help with virtually any request or problem we had. This was an excellent and very useful service. The only minor issue was that responses were sometimes a little slower than expected, particularly considering the level of the hotel. Again, this is more an opportunity for refinement than a significant criticism. One area that definitely needs improvement is in-room dining. We ordered it two or three times during our stay, using both the telephone directly from the villa and WhatsApp. Unfortunately, on several occasions the waiting times were very long, and dishes that we had not ordered were sometimes delivered. We were not always sure whether this was due to a misunderstanding when taking the order, communication issues or another operational problem, but the fact remains that the orders were not consistently accurate. In addition, a surprisingly large number of items on the in-room dining menu were unavailable during our stay. We therefore often had to change our choices and look for alternatives because certain dishes or ingredients were not available. This made the overall in-room dining experience unnecessarily complicated and is another area where greater consistency and better communication would make a significant difference. During our stay, the hotel was close to full occupancy, and this was not particularly noticeable during the day. It became more apparent, however, during breakfast and dinner. We had breakfast every morning at Empire Grill, the hotel’s main restaurant, where breakfast is predominantly à la carte with some buffet options. When the restaurant was not particularly busy, the service was perfectly fine. However, as soon as more guests started arriving, the service became noticeably more rushed and less attentive. The atmosphere consequently became less relaxed, and this was somewhat at odds with the otherwise tranquil and refined feeling of the property. We also had dinner there on one occasion, and unfortunately this was probably the weakest dining experience of our stay. Waiting times were extremely long, and there were several mistakes throughout the meal. Considering the overall standard of the hotel, this was disappointing and is certainly an area where I believe the operation could be improved, particularly during periods of high occupancy. Our experience at Royal China, on the other hand, was impeccable. The service was extremely attentive, efficient and courteous, and every dish we tried was excellent (even though the Peking duck was not particularly distinctive). The quality of the food was consistently very high, making this a truly outstanding dining experience and one of the highlights of our stay. Overall, Raffles Sentosa left us with an excellent impression. The setting is exceptional, the property is beautiful, the villas are outstanding and the atmosphere is exactly what you would hope for from a high-end tropical retreat. The hotel manages to create a wonderful sense of privacy and tranquillity despite being so close to Singapore. While there are some areas where the service could be more attentive and consistent, particularly during busy periods and with in-room dining, these points did not overshadow what was otherwise a fantastic stay. We would definitely recommend Raffles Sentosa and would be very happy to return.
