“Quiet rooms. Great location for commuting tourists.”

Our family stayed at Strand Hotel from Dec. 16-18. It's right on Bencoolen Street. Our view from the window is a clean and quiet street. (The street is quiet or the glass windows and walls are thick enough to muffle the street sounds.) Strand Hotel shares free wi-fi access that makes it convenient in completing our arrival cards, online flight check-ins, and Google searches for places to visit and checking bus and MRT routes. The rooms are clean and comfortable with provision of basic amenities that are replenished daily. One of our rooms has no provision for ironing clothes, but it's ok because our other rooms have them, so we just freshened up our clothes using theirs. There's no bidet in the rest room, so it was a bit of a hurdle for us and the kids, but we got by. The staff are friendly and helpful with street directions and late night requests. One of the best come-ons for this hotel is its location. It's right across a convenient store and a food hall with a choice of simple but varied cuisines. (But it was closed on Sunday morning, so we ordered takeout breakfast from a fastfood.) It's walking distance to the National Museum and Fort Canning Park and right next to MRT Bencoolen Station and bus stops, so it was somehow easy to get to our destinations. Given the chance to visit Singapore again in the future, we might consider staying here again.

“3X bigger rooms, just make sure to get the deluxe rooms”

I stopped going to Strand but went back this time around. I just made sure I booked the deluxe room and requested for the one on the 5th floor. These are the newly renovated rooms. I went back because of the space which I didn't get in Hotel Mi, V Hotel, Hotel Bencoolen and G Hotel. In the end, I think it depends on what you go for. Strand is basic but clean and bigger space. It's not hip or trendy but the room is a lot bigger, maybe 3X than what other hotels offer. Got tired of trendy and hip -

“No frills hotel”

No frills. You stay in Strand mainly because of its location. Good clean sturdy room - standard bed, basic shower room. Food choice are just a stone throw away. MRT and Bus stops are just around the corner. A good choice if you just want a room to sleep in after a day of sightseeing and shopping.

Stayed in a Standard Double room for 2 night in May 2023. It's good value for the price. The room was basic but clean and generally well-maintained, despite showing its age and wear and tear (but nothing too bad). It was a bit of a surprise because the common areas look like they were recently renovated, but the size of the room (very spacious!) helped make up for that. The bathroom was dated but had a bathtub, which was a nice surprise. The aircon works but is not especially strong. When it's turned on at 'high', in the daytime, it could get a little warm. But it might be because my room got a lot of sunlight. The soundproofing is good unlike a nearby hotel, and I couldn't hear much noise from the hallway. Location is also great.
