“Location, location, location”

Firstly, both Ibis Styles Ljubljana Centre and The Fuzzy Log (Hostel) have a combined reception and it's on the 7th floor. There are 3 elevators on the ground floor, 2 for Ibis Styles and 1 for The Fuzzy Log. Management had sorted out this interesting and unusual arrangement and somehow it works.... more

Firstly, both Ibis Styles Ljubljana Centre and The Fuzzy Log (Hostel) have a combined reception and it's on the 7th floor. There are 3 elevators on the ground floor, 2 for Ibis Styles and 1 for The Fuzzy Log. Management had sorted out this interesting and unusual arrangement and somehow it works. Our room key/cards allowed us access to the elevators and the separate wing for Ibis Styles rooms. We stayed for 4 nights and were totally content with our large room that was kept clean every day. No problem with the glass bathroom/toilet partitions, no leaks, sink & lighted mirror and hair dryer worked, had a useful chair & bench. Lots of different size round pegs on the wall to hang clothes. Buffet breakfast was good. Free tea all day in front of the reception. And the front desk staff and breakfast servers were very nice, helpful, respectful and kind. The location was great, being in between the Bus Station and the start of the Old Town, 10-minute walk, north or south. The Police Station is directly in front of Ibis. Supermarkets, Spar and 2 branches of Mercator, and different restaurants are also within 10-minute walking distance. What's a negative? No refrigerator. It was -1 to 14 degrees centigrade when we came, so we didn't need it.

This was the first time I had stayed in an Ibis hotel and it definitely had its own unique style. Check in was quick and efficient. Our room had pros and cons. I wouldn't say it was particularly welcoming, even with the curtains wide open it felt dark, there was horrible concrete coloured wallpaper and the full length mirror/towel holder was more gimmick than practical. The sink looked beautiful but wasn't able to drain quickly - another case of style over substance. The bed was also as hard as a rock and made up of two mattresses rather than one. On a more positive note, the show was brilliant and the room was exceptionally clean. The breakfasts were good - not the widest range I've ever encountered, but certainly nothing to complain about. The best part of the hotel was its location, a five minute walk from the town centre and the staff who were uniformly helpful and friendly. Overall, I would say this was a good hotel but could be even better if they stopped trying to be so funky and made sure that everything was completely practical.
