Our second visit here in 12 months. And it just gets better. Game drives are amazing, people are great and the lodge and food are excellent.

“We have found our new home!”

I came to Leopard Hills off the back of a less than pleasant experience elsewhere in the Sabi Sands and had a degree of hesitation in returning. However there was absolutely no need for such hesitation and from the greeting on arrival it very soon became apparent that there is something special … more

“Luxurious safari experience”

We spent three nights at this lodge, which we consider the perfect number of nights to stay at a lodge to get the full experience. We were welcomed with a glass of bubbly – always a nice way to be greeted! Everyone who worked at the lodge was super pleasant and clearly wanted guests to have a good … more

  • The top reviews of Leopard Hills are: Having stayed at a number of safari lodges over the years, Leopard Hills certainly ranks amongst the very best. Everything is geared towards creating an intimate, high-quality experience, from the small number of suites through to the exceptional guiding and attention to detail. With only eight rooms, the lodge never feels busy. The suites themselves are spacious, beautifully appointed and each comes with its own private plunge pool, outdoor shower and viewing deck. We stayed in Room 5, which we'd highly recommend if available. It overlooks one of the lodge's watering holes and throughout our stay we watched elephants, zebra, wildebeest, impala, baboons, buffalo and warthogs without even leaving our room. On several occasions elephants even wandered over and drank directly from our plunge pool, which was an incredible experience. From what we saw, Rooms 6 and 7 also overlook the watering hole, whilst the remaining rooms have elevated bush views. If you have a preference, it seems the lodge is more than happy to accommodate room requests where possible. The main lodge is equally impressive. Whether relaxing in the library, enjoying dinner around the Boma every other evening, or sitting by the fire after returning from an evening game drive, it always felt comfortable and welcoming. The all-inclusive offering is excellent, with a generous selection of drinks and snacks in your room that are replenished regularly, and if you prefer, lunch can even be served on your private deck overlooking the bush. The daily routine is well organised without ever feeling rushed. During our winter stay it was an early start for the morning drive, back for breakfast, time to relax during the middle of the day, before heading out again around mid-afternoon and returning after dark for dinner. The vehicles carry a maximum of six guests, and you're generally allocated the same guide and tracker throughout your stay, which makes a real difference as they quickly get to know what interests you most. We were fortunate enough to have Dieter as our guide and Colin as our tracker, and they were outstanding. Rather than simply trying to tick boxes, they looked at our six-night stay as a whole and planned each day's drives accordingly. Most guests stay three nights, which is certainly enough to see the highlights and, in all likelihood, the Big Five. Staying six nights, however, allowed the experience to unfold at a much more relaxed pace and gave us the opportunity to enjoy a much wider variety of sightings. Leopard Hills certainly lives up to its name. We saw leopards on three separate days, including a female with her cub. We also watched a lioness with three cubs, plenty of elephants, zebra and all of the Big Five over the course of our stay. We were also incredibly fortunate to see two cheetahs, African wild dogs (roundong out the Magnificant Seven - but don't expect this) and even honey badgers, all of which are regarded as particularly special sightings. It's obvious the guides and trackers work exceptionally well together, sharing information and using their experience to maximise opportunities while always respecting the animals. Every game drive also includes a stop for drinks and snacks in a scenic location, which is always a nice opportunity to stretch your legs and reflect on what you've seen. During the cooler months, the thoughtful touches really stand out, with warm ponchos, blankets and hot water bottles provided on the vehicles, while the rooms also include electronic hot water bottles ready for your return. The hospitality throughout the lodge is first class. Carmen and Clarence looked after us brilliantly during meals and around the lodge, while Justin, Megan and Kiara were always visible, approachable and genuinely interested in making sure everyone was enjoying their stay. As with anywhere, there were one or two very minor hiccups during the week, but they were dealt with quickly and professionally, which probably says more about the quality of the management than if nothing had gone wrong at all. The food was consistently excellent, with plenty of variety throughout the week, and we particularly enjoyed the Boma dinners. Another nice touch is that you can choose to dine with your guide and the other guests from your vehicle, sharing stories from the day's sightings, or opt for a private table if you prefer. With only eight suites, you soon get to know both the staff and the other guests, giving the whole lodge a wonderfully relaxed and intimate atmosphere. If travelling with younger children, it's worth noting that Leopard Hills is quite strict about minimum ages for certain activities. Whilst this may disappoint some families, it's entirely understandable and is clearly done for safety and to ensure everyone enjoys the experience. If we had a couple of suggestions, they would only be very minor ones. Heating the private plunge pools during the cooler months would encourage guests to make more use of them, and adding more USB-C charging points in the rooms would help future-proof what is already a very well-equipped lodge. Overall, Leopard Hills delivers exactly what a luxury safari lodge should. Exceptional wildlife, superb guiding, outstanding hospitality, fantastic food and luxurious accommodation combine to create a truly memorable experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our six-night stay and wouldn't hesitate to return. Highly recommended..
